For a poster who never posted any one he works with, or had a poster say you were there hitting instructor, is a very telling story.
SL

We lucked out and were able to get into the last opening at 8 PM and ended up getting a bonus 30 minutes! Beautiful night!

Jenna was given the choice of going into the cages or staying outside. I think she chose well.

Julray ... here is a no-stride swing ... take note of the FBC forward action ... very different than an upper body forward lunge.

Doesn't matter whether you stride or not ... I expect to see this action ... just that it's easiest taught/learnt with a stride. I swing with or without a stride ... but to me the rear leg action is the same regardless.

I wish good things for you SL .... such as learning the difference between "there" and "their".

Regarding your video .... Anyone performing a dry swing with the rear elbow that far away from their body, as they pass through the 'RVP connection point position', has an issue understanding the swing. In addition to learning the difference between "there" and "their", I also wish you success in learning the difference between what you instructed your daughter to do in that video and how accomplished hitters actually swing a bat.

Maybe you could post a few accomplished hitters swinging a bat with the "stinky arm pit" mechanic you have your daughter doing in that video. I'll wait patiently .

How do you turn the triangle without your rear elbow getting through clean?

The step-and-hit drill is a good drill. I have several hitters begin their batting session with this drill. Until they have their sequence correct there is little need to go much further along the path to swing development.

I would have liked to see him demo the drill with a full swing.........

Is this drill not essentially the Babe Ruth Drill?

Thanks, I think I am understanding this a little better now.. It seems that my daughter and I were still adding a portion of the stride sequence that does not occur in the no stride approach. If looking at the step and hit drill, you notice that the instructors upper body makes forward progress during the stride while the hands make a negative move to create separation. With the no stride approach there seems to be very little forward progress with the upper body (Miggy and Pujois), which makes sense because they are already at a point of separation when they drop their heel and load their scap. My daughter was trying to create lag by progressing her upper body with the hands lagging behind. I think I need to make her understand that the hips and legs drive forward progress, not the upper body lunge and then at heel plant rotation occurs and then there is no more forward progress with the exception of the back hip and knee gaining ground on the front side. Funny thing is.. her swing was more like this a couple of years ago, it just my poor understanding of bat lag and trying to enforce it instead of letting it happen naturally with good mechanics... GREAT JOB DAD

This was an outside pitch .... and hence the elbow should have more clearance as it passes by the rear hip. That said ... it doesn't have near the clearance exhibited in SL's daughter's demo, which if actually learned would kill inside/outside plate coverage.

Sounds like you are getting it. Congrats!

Bat lag, if that is truly what you wish to work on, comes from a mechanic performed at the start of the swing. You in a sense "lose the arm wrestling match" for an instant as the swing starts. I can explain it further if there is interest .... but that isn't your daughter's concern at the moment.
