Wow slugger, While ago you are the one dismissing NASA simulator as inaccurate , stating "you have spoken to NASA researcher" and simulator is not accurate with there is no definitive science formula to get accurate trajectory based on magnus effect. Now you are happy to use simulator to...
Ken,
Try pitching large wiffle ball ( same size as softball) as riseball pitch or at least reverse spin. You can see it really rises a quite a bit. So it wouldn't be big deal to rise the rise ball 1 or 2 inches.
Ken,
Many of them. I guess some of them more so on certain pitch ( curve/drop). Some land at close to 90( on ball of the foot) and then correct it. and Here are some images.

This is a danger of getting opinions on open board. Classic example is 45 degrees issue. There are absolutely no two athletes are same. Same way saying foot has to land at absolute 45 degrees just meaningless.
Many athletes has foot turned inward or outward. Without knowing how their foot and...
Amy, I think you are talking rec ball right ?. That is definitely not true in TB teams.
If you have been to this years ASA/USA 12U nationals, pretty much every girls throwing mid to high 50s. Majority of them had good fast, CU, and drop. It was awesome to watch some of the best teams from SEC...
spin and axis is the key for all movement pitches. Since rise ball has to fight gravity speed is even more essential.
Speed is also essential for deception.
I know this was old discussion but you can really make 32mph /11inch changeup at 10U level move more than six inches with good spin( my DD...
Coach yelling really works ?. hm!. Must be pitchers in D1 are really dumb and batters are super intelligent. If 3B coach yells the grip to batter , obviously same information is received by pitcher. And worst thing ever happen is getting ready to swing with preconceived expectation of what is...
Dont worry it will come. Make sure she doesn't change her aggressiveness from fast to CU. My DD( also 10U) started learning flip change in last October and was wild till march. And one day all of sudden during warm-up for scrimmage she throws consistently and she comes back and says "My change...
Agree Hal, yesterday we were against one of the best team in the NE . Even it was 10U atleast 5 girls in that team looked like 16-18 year olds. Our starting pitcher for that game was fast but they were able to pick her apart in second innings. Then my DD went in essentially finished one hitter...
Things which used happen with my DD and she used to brush the ball to thighs. Very painful indeed.
1. She used lock elbow and push the ball down on down phase. So ball was infront many times hit or brushed her thighs hard during release.
we corrected this by pulling the ball ( ball facing...
My daughter is also 10y old. she also practices 2-3 times a week. In practice I put 20 balls in a bucket. So she warms with 2 buckets then 1 bucket fast, 1 bucket change and one bucket mixed fast and change. ( she has only two pitches for now)
In the tournament she pitches one game on Saturday...
I have "ATEC Pro Pitchers Screen w/Stand". So no need to catch and you can focus on her mechanics from side . works great on indoors as well as outdoors
Yes. In cricket it is allowed to rub the ball on pants. So fast pitchers(Bowler) constantly polish one side of the ball against their pants make it smooth while letting other side rough as the game progresses. Idea is same creating drag difference between sides
Ok Slugger!. Here is the scientific formula for you :). L = (4 * pi^2 * b^3 * s * rho * V) * 4 / 3
where s = spin, V = velocity . Increase in both causes increase in later lift L.
Only inverse here is time takes reach the plate from circle. So let the science speak itself.
Ken, as you said in the first post, If you just calculate lateral displacement at plate it will be Ball "B" will have more movement. The same goes with 'Arc" which is mainly due to drop in speed from point of release to the plate. 45MPH ball will have more relative drop in speed at plate than 65...
lhouser, My daughter 10U did extensive research on this topic for her science project( Magnus Effect). It was really fascinating to learn the science behind it. We actually created wind tunnel and ball spinner to simulate various pitches for her science project. It is amazing she can explain how...
