12u baseball coach to me: You're late. To the scoreboard and back.
Me:Awwww, C'mon coach . . .
Coach: Make it two. . .
Two lessons learned. . . Be on time, don't talk back.
Never happened again. /shrug. Maybe some punishment is a good thing, sometimes.
My daughters PC has spent the last three lessons on these very same mechanics. She won't move on until she gets them right. I agree with her 100%. Build a good foundation or everything else is for naught.
Maybe this should be the First sticky!!!
Great stuff, can't wait for more.
Good info! This gives me a good idea where to focus training in order to prevent injuries that could pop up from pitching. I am assuming that focused training will also help make it easier to correct/improve areas of her motion that are less than stellar by strengthening the areas that are...
I can tell you that it may not ALL be about the win but when you have zero wins, it becomes mighty important. Having no wins pushes girls out of the game, frustrates them and their parents, and generally is no fun at all. From that perspective, it is all about the win loss record.
We're...
OILF seems to want to derail this. Perhaps jealousy is rearing it's ugly head? How about we just let JS do his thing? I'm lovin' it and learning a ton. Keep it coming Java!
At 22 there are a lot of life changes that may be happening, college, career, relationships, family, etc. Has anyone sat down with her as a friend to find out if this is what's going on? A friendly ear may help. Once that relationship is established, giving suggestions and advice is much...
Great point . . . we warm up nice and slow with a mix of overhand and underhand. That's exactly what she does . . . a nice easy whip and some I/R. I enjoy that time, too. No real structure, just fun, chit chatting, telling jokes, whatever. No pressure, just nice easy tossing the ball back...
I believe this is exactly what she is doing and is using familiar mechanics from the bowling to get there.
We started tonight with lock it in drills from BM's thread, I/R in the Classroom. We going to focus on not bowling for a bit. Ball outside the elbow, elbow brushing, upper arm locking...
GoPro is very revealing . . . . (vid added)
Awesome responses, thank you.
WillyT - I have read BM's I/R in the classroom many, many times. I am a complete believer in the I/R technique. It would be wise to go back and review again, though.
Amy - She wasn't inside, we were outside. I'm...
GoPro is very revealing . . .(VIDEO ADDED)
Ok, just got the go pro and WOW did it open my eyes. Now I've got a laundry list of issue to work on . . .
1.) Leaping - she actually gets airborne during the pitch.
2.) Late release - ball comes out of her hand in front of her front knee.
3.)...
Been thinking about what is the most important training tool that I could purchase?
What has been everyone's most valuable (not the most . . .or the least . . expensive) tool that they use in the development of their DD's?
They pitch, catch, infield, and outfield. Youngun's . . .9 and 11...
Sorry, I disagree as well.
I think using video is helpful as a descriptive tool. And it also depends on what kind of learner your youngun is. If she is a visual learner, video will speak volumes more than words alone.
Also, using video could be a confidence booster. Sometimes what they...
DD was getting frustrated with the constant mantra from me regarding mechanics, basics, form, etc . . . .So we gave it a shot. She couldn't believe what I was asking her to do.
She did it, opened her eyes, and was amazed that it was in the catcher's mitt even! Slight miss from the strike...
I feel your pain. Very sorry for her having to sit and wait to heal.
As an off hand suggestion, perhaps work on the mental aspect of her game during this time? For example, which pitch is best when? How to recognize "tells" in other pitchers? Game strategy? Mental toughness and how to...
Have been reaching for a strategy on why this occurs as well.
Perhaps the coach would rather have a hit/run-fest rather than a walk-a-paloosa. At least the hits cause the infield to get work and improve?
My dd's catching coach says that the thumb should be pointing up to avoid catchers thumb (repeated pounding on the thumb joint that comes with it pointing down ). I'm no pro but after catching dd's and 2 other pitchers every game day, the thumb does get sore if I go with the thumb down. /shrug
THAT will be a long list. The wonderful people here have excellent information in this thread regarding each of these.
Head stillness.
Head over rear knee, rear knee bent at impact
Throwing the bat to the ball (barrel to the ball).
Coil. "Showing the hip pocket"
Hip turning.
Magic point at...
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have been lurking on this thread for a while now, absorbing and applying the info as best I can. I apologize for a slight hijacking of the OP's thread.
My DD is in 10U and has been a fair hitter at best. I so wanted to help her but I was ignorant of the process. My...
