DD was getting frustrated with the constant mantra from me regarding mechanics, basics, form, etc . . . .So we gave it a shot. She couldn't believe what I was asking her to do.

She did it, opened her eyes, and was amazed that it was in the catcher's mitt even! Slight miss from the strike zone but still pretty close.

Big confidence boost at that point. Helped her realize all the work she was doing was actually working.

DD's PC has asked her to do it many times. Mainly if she is just over thinking things and might be getting frustrated. She'll say ok just close your eyes and throw one in here. And she does and it is almost always a strike and it's a good shift of gears.

When my DD is struggling with her mechanics I try to do one of two things. Get her to throw into a tarp from @ 20' or to close her eyes and throw the pitch. Both force her to focus on her mechanics, not on the result of the pitch.

If you watch Cat Osterman pitch closely, you'll notice that every single pitch she's looking down at the dirt and not the at the target. Its not until the ball is released that she looks up to see the result of the pitch.

MY DD does this and it drives me crazy, she will correct when I say something and then back to looking down. Never noticed Osterman did this also.
