    Cool... where is she going?

    Varsity Roster..cutting girls

So if you had 16 Junior and senior players, like JBG, you would cut 6 or 7 of them (possibly more, depending on freshman and sophmore talent)?

First trip to USFA in Panama City.

Jdaddy, there are about 4 different parks that games are played at, and field conditions can very greatly depending on the weather. Some we played at were like playing on the beach, and some were like playing in the parking lot. Never had a problem parking, there always seemed to be plenty, but...

attempting to play catch with a 2YO.

I like the way she sets up a little deeper than nessessary so she can charge the ball when fielding. I see potential!

    Varsity Roster..cutting girls

There is a lot of politics in HS sports, including SB. If a girl plays JV for the first 2-3 yrs of HS, the coach may put them on varsity just as a reward for playing JV. At our HS, seniors can't play JV, but juniors can. What coach wants to cut a senior, who has been with the team for 3 years...

    International Tie-breaker, Nuances In Coaching

Pitch out is an excellent call in this situation. When my team is hitting, I like to pull back from the bunt on the first pitch, just to see what the defense is going to do. Do both 1st and 3rd crash the bunt, with SS going toward 3rd and 2nd going to 1st? Or is 1st staying back to cover 1st and...

    Speed v Movement

My answer would be twofold. 1) Develop your swing with late adjustability. Use your arms to adjust to the ball rather than power the swing. (Tewks has a good blog on early bat speed with late commital to the swing concerning Bautista) 2) Train your eyes to pick up the pitch at the release...

Glad to hear the good news! Please let her know we are all thinking about her!

Most absurd thing a coach ever said

During a MS game one time, the batter (head coach's DD) had a hair tie around her wrist and the ump told her to take it off. Next time up, it was there again. The ump took his mask off and addressed the HC, who was coaching 3rd, and told him "I warned her once, one more time and you are both out...

    Cleats – Worth Getting

Get her some cleats. You may find out she's a speedster!

    International Tie-breaker, Nuances In Coaching

BB875... GM was right, you did what you could on offense, sometimes it just doesn't work out. But, on defense, if you had walked the first batter, and had a force at 3rd, would that have made a difference? The runner at 1st would have been of no consequence sense the runner at 2nd was the...

    International Tie-breaker, Nuances In Coaching

I agree with you on this, and I prefer to be visitors, especially in ITB. But, with a runner on 2nd and no outs, you gotta figure you can at least score one! What really puts pressure on the home team is scoring two! I've been in a lot of ITB games and it seems as though if the visitors score...

    International Tie-breaker, Nuances In Coaching

Home team on defense, take any out they give you, but try to keep the runner from scoring. One run scoring is not the end of the world, but don't give up a big inning by not taking the opportunity to get the out. Visitors on defense, if you scored one run or more, use the same stratagy. If you...

    Concusions,and your childs life!!!

It's funny, when I took my DD to the Dr. Sat morning, there were at least 6 other kids in there with BB uniforms on. Knees, ankles, wrists, and one bloody (broken?) nose, and this was before noon. I don't think my DD will be playing next year, if I can help it. :(

Most Dangerous Part of the Field

If you are having trouble with drainage, it's time to check into having the fields lazer graded. Our HS had it done a couple of years ago and it cost about $5000, including dirt. Someone on here a while back mentioned they had their fields done for alot less and they would come back every year...

Most Dangerous Part of the Field

Alot of times this is caused by always dragging the field from the outside in (grass to pitching plate). That will tend to move the dirt towards the center of the infield. It helps to alternate from outside in, to inside out. If a lip is developing, you can drag inside out and let the draging...

    Concusions,and your childs life!!!

Thanks for the detailed info nano, it sounds like you were doing everything you were told, but it just goes to show how many people in the medical field don't even understand how to deal with head injuries. It's amazing to me that it sounds like the eye Dr. was the first to realize how serious...

    Concusions,and your childs life!!!

Nano,... you have my thoughts and prayers for Emily and your whole family. It's strange, but I have been re-reading your other post several times this past week because of some of the good info in it about concussions. This past Tuesday my DD was playing BB and also fell on her back and hit her...

    Georgia is anyone out there?

We always rented a condo on the beach where the whole team stayed. Seems like it cost somewhere around $1400-$1800 for the week. Expensive, but a great vacation with the whole team full of girls for DD to hang out with. We stayed at the Boardwalk one year, but the last time we went, we stayed at...
