There is so much good advice above. As a young college coach, I was in love with the pitching machine and the cage, at the college. I quickly learned that is not the way to go.
The pitching machine is a tool to learn certain parts of your swing, or to strengthen your arms.
I never use it at practice, except for OF drills.
I also limit most practices to 1.5 hours, but I (also) understand drive times. I haven't been in that situation.
IF the girls are "gamers" they will not want to lose. They will practice on their own and beg you to throw to them. They will want the latest bat, the best glove and a private coach.
A 12 YO knows if she wants to do this or not. I asked one in front of her parents, last week - because she refuses to catch with 2 hands. She says she likes softball, but just not every day.
Well, I don't expect my level of commitment, but I love softball every minute of the day.
