:) perspective on distance

Yesterday i commented about playing baseball on Jackie Robinson field. This was at our first practice.
My first hit launching to left center.
Others to follow...
Hitting to the hr wall.
Hits landing just feet in front of it.
*Here is the distance pic.
The pitchers at bp (men) were from farm league.
Throwing at 80-84mph.
*which was slow for me AND i had to wait on the pitches.
*yes the pitchers threw a mix of pitches curves sliders fb change ups

Not sure your point..baseballs go further than softballs..we get that. Yesterday I gave a reasonable way of estimating fence distances in Post 110 based upon what appears to be the current max capabilities in fastpitch softball at the college level (bats, balls, hitters ability) but nobody wanted to attempt my HW... ;)

Seems to me that fence dimensions are somewhat all over the place and/or built to for the amount of land they have to put as many all fields as possible. DD played in a big tournament in Nashville (Hendersonville) a few weeks ago. The "big field" was 230 all the way around, the "small field" was anywhere from 180 - 200. I think others were closer to 200. Where we practice field dimensions are 200 down the line and 210 to center. This weekend we go to Alabama - no idea what those dimensions will be. It'll be interesting to find out!

Even Texas A&M, (A land grant institution) would have to relocate their nice stadium to move the fence back more than a few feet. 213' to the side walk in right field.

Fyi, A&M Built a new Stadium. Davis Diamond. The pic above is their old stadium. Go back to google maps and look towards the SW of the old stadium just past the soccer stadium and you will find it. Still 200' in the corners. I am of the opinion that Corners should be 200' and CF 220'

Something else to ponder. MLB stadiums can make their outfield fence configurations in all types of wonky ways. DD's Baseball HS fence- Straight away CF is 360' while the power alleys are 375'.

This was my DD's high school field - the Varsity field is the one on the left. Measures between 230' and 235' depending where you measure. DD hit more than 20 out over her 4 years of home games. The little rectangle outside the left field fence is the scoreboard - she put a nice dent in it above the "t" in strike. Untitled.png
