Turning the barrel?

I like to think about turning the barrel as getting the bat IN THE WAY of the ball instead of driving the knob/barrel AT the ball.

It's a core driven swing instead of a hands and arms driven move. Most coaching cues are hands dominated as that's what holds the bat and what people feel most. One of the first motor skills a person learns is 'reach and grab' as in a baby is in the crib and the parents are looking at her. She reaches up and grabs a finger.

That's how most people hit as well...and that motor skill must be repressed to allow for a suddenly accelerated turn driven bat head.
