The importance of roles on your team

First of all the outfield should not be presented as the place for "bad players." Soon, it becomes a place for players with specific skills. Some of this comes from the coaches not spending any time on teaching the outfield in practice. Running down fly balls is fun and also at HS you can still see many can't go back on the ball and don't know the relays!

Screwball...Could not have been stated better. We run down fly balls and perform outfield drills at most every practice where defense is being worked on. Even at 10U.

I have really noticed in 14u how often I'm hearing coaches say that they are looking for girls who can play outfield and that good outfielders are hard to find.

I'm told that it's even more so in college...
