Saw it on the Tennessee Game

So I have a quick question I noticed on last nights super regional game that every time a batter got on 1st base the coach would hand them something from her pocket. The player put the item in her mouth an chewed. Now my wife and me kept going back and forth rewinding and trying to guess what it could be. Does any one have any insight to it? I figured it was candy of some kind
