Can you explain the drill.

He would drag one of the protective fielding screens over half of home plate and stand halfway between the pitcher’s mound and the plate and toss pitches underhand, so hitters could practice increasing their power by shortening their swing.

Although from the picture it appears the net actually only covers a quarter of the plate.

For the right hitter it could be a decent enough drill.

Notice Kevin Long’s points of emphasis …

- avoiding letting the “hands getting away” … i.e., he wishes to encourage a “tight hand pivot point”.

- “not creating movement forward” … i.e., not “Shift THEN Swing”, but “Shift AND Swing” … not lunging … hitting with the backside.

- avoiding “cross over” … i.e., not striding towards the plate.

As with all drills, the usefulness (or lack thereof) tends to come down to one's POEs.

I don't like the emphasis on pulling everything...but it works for these guys because the lefties have the short fence in RF.

I think Long also talks about spinning the rear leg...I know I have seen a clip of him showing it...
