At tryouts the plan is machine pitch, live pitch and off of a tee. They are measuring bat speed and ball velocity from the tee. Would girls record a higher bat speed if they dropped down an ounce or so with another bat? Would ball velocity change much? This would be for 16u. Just curious.

Why change a bat to drop an ounce? By the way bat & exit speed are fine, but I have seem some terrible mechanics that have a high exit speeds. All the speed in the world isn't going to do much if the mechanics suck.

How do they measure the bat speed? Is there a gizmo they attach to the bat?

Bat speed may be faster with a lighter bat, but ball exit speed could be slower... Lots of threads on this.
Many coaches have Zepp now which measures swing speed at contact but not exit speed and several colleges we've been at use Swing Speed radar. Many types of radars can measure ball exit speed.
