Too funny... some of the ads that are displayed are a reference to your internet activity... others are random.

I've been looking at Sony camera's, excel formula's, etc...

Hope the dating website is a random ad... LOL

I use firefox as my search engine on mac; I went to the tools drop down menu; clicked on the web developer tab- then to "get more tools"- it took me to an "add on" page where I searched "block advertisements"- and found "adblock plus" (of course if you google "adblock plus" you may get there directly)- I clicked on it which allowed free installation in about 30 seconds. Now- magically- the ads are gone and I am very happy.

To moderators- the ads are quite intrusive- I would get two-three per page and couldn't get rid of them. One at the top= OK, I could tolerate that for the necessity of maintaining a functioning site-but for chinese women; not so much- I agree with Boomers take on that- there needs to be some discretion- will we be seeing next best viagra-like supplement?

good point JS, The folks that are seeing the websites for girls might be seeing them based on their browsing history, I have all the ads blocked so I have no idea what is being displayed for me but my best guess is that it involves midgets and animals somehow.

Just so you all know, all the ad stuff is a different part of the Forum than what I have control over. I was as surprised as anyone when they started popping up. The first time I saw it I thought a poster had violated the rules by posting an ad. I can mention it to Marc to see what can be done to improve things, and make sure it doesn't cover up video, but that's about it.

The ads are (generally) based on your browsing history, just like on Facebook. If you looked at one thing, the algorithm will say "People who like X also seem to like Y, so let's serve up this type of ad." Doesn't mean you looked at ads for dating Chinese or any other woman, but more that other people who clicked on the same ads as you also went there.

JJ has been correct about the reason for the ads. It's expensive to run a site like this. Marc has paid for it out of his own pocket for years, but I think the costs have become too much for him to bear alone. Running ads helps defer the cost for keeping DFP going. The alternative is to start charging a monthly fee. If he did that I'm sure you'd see a whole lot more people dropping off than would do it because of an ad. That's the reality of the Internet.

Install the AdBlockPlus extension. Gets rid of almost all ads. I don't see any on this site (I use Firefox but i think Chrome has it too; not sure about Internet Explorer but nobody should be using that anyway ;) ).
