Just my observation but I am seeing a lot more growth plate issues with the 10U & 12U divisions. As a kid, I don't remember my friends at this age having these injuries? Maybe we were too young to notice it or we parents now are quick to run to the doctor for a diagnosis but it does seem to be more frequent.

Wouldn't be surprised that there is a correlation between growth plate injuries and year round sports, specializing in one sport, more competitive youth sports, and longer, more intense practices?

There was a discussion on MLB channel the other night and one of the "experts" said there is a correlation between the prevalence of year round baseball/softball and Tommy John surgery at younger ages. I think there may be some merit here. These kids have no time to heal up from injuries. Fall ball, winter practice, winter dome leagues, spring school ball, summer travel ball, repeat....

I will broadcast this again from the highest blog mountain - THREE of the best SB pitchers (year-round athletes) in my 75 mile radius area when down HARD with year-long injuries from overuse in 2013-2014.

This is REAL as much as it is REAL the fever that a family can catch when their child starts to get community & college attention.....

Year round sporto's (and I mean intense 5-6 days a week types) have a success "addiction" and I think the only thing that will break the addiction is a year long injury (from what I have experienced AND seen).

I STRONGLY recommend to these addicted sporto's 8 continuous weeks a year of just maybe yoga n bicycle (as an example of no-throw, no toreso-torque) and let the startings of MAJOR repetitive injuries heal in the span that they can heal - which IS 8 weeks.
