Coach James,

When throwing against a carpet or taught net, you must use Manual mode so that only the toss is measured. If the app is set to Auto mode, the bounce off a net or carpet often triggers a reading that will overwrite the pitch statistic.
25 feet is too short a distance unless the pitcher is throwing quite slowly.

Also, when throwing into a net, the ball must stop sharply and not spin down as it stops. Net don't always do that well, but usually a heavy carpet will work to do that.

After getting a replacement since my first didn’t work, here is my feedback:

*Very consistent readings when at the right distance

*speed almost dead right on my pocket radar when at the proper distance

*great grippy service

*using the tips they provide it eliminated junk readings.

Now for the numbers (absolutely zero brag...just want some feedback/explanations from the experts)

After a brief warmup and ball setup and throwing some test pitches of each we took 10 of each pitch and averaged. Results:

11YO

Fastball 50-51mph 16.0-17.2 rps
Change 38-40mph 11.2-12.0 rps
Drop curve 48-49mph 14.0-14.5 rps

So the big question....why is her fastball have a higher rps than her drop curve? Does this tell me something about bullet spin? Im not sure I fully grasp that concept. Help?!?

What grip does she use and what is spin axis of each pitch?

She throws both a 2 seam and 4 seam. The numbers I posted were from the 2 seam that she uses most often. It’s movement resembles a peel drop. The 4 seam ranged in the 15’s.

As far as axis - help me answer that question....? The best way I can describe it is from what I see catching. We use a line ball that has the line around the ball across 4 seams. The line is spinning tightly and standing vertical as it comes in with the “nose” of the ball tilted slightly away from me on the bucket (to my left) and the tail of the ball (line) to my right.

Does it look like this:

If so, that is typical spin imparted by great IR. I would guess the difference in RPS comes from increased whip on the "fastball" vs. some forced wrist action on the drop curve.

Yep!! Exactly! Thanks for the link to that thread. I will certainly learn alot as I digest it. Her ball spins exactly like shown and described there.

It sounds like the natural IR with that fastball axis actually has higher RPS but doesn’t break because of the axis whereas the drop curve she is tilting the axis which counteracts some of the natural spin of the IR fastball release. Probably not the proper terminology when it comes to physics but is that what you are suggesting?

Played with it tonight. Speed was off by 8-10 mph from my pocket radar. Spin seemed way low also. Help!!!

Did you ever figure this out? Our team just got these and we are getting 5-7+ mph higher than the pocket radar ball coach. 43' to plate, catcher's feet 3 feet behind the plate. Revfire2 set to 43'. Any ideas?

Ordered a revfire last week. Recieved an email Saturday that said "some of the balls shipped between January 14 and January 23 are consistently too high. We are investigating the issue and once we have a good understanding, we expect to issue an update to the RevFire app that will work with all balls." They also asked for input on if any readings were off. With that being said, the app had an update to fix bugs yesterday and we received and threw with the RevFire last night. Have no idea if the speed and spin was correct, but it was very consistent with its readings and out of about 60 throws, it failed to read only 2 or 3 pitches.

Any updates? Still holding off until I know the product works consistently and reliability.
