This is a true story...

Right before HS season starts, a PI shows one of the students how to throw a rise. Not much...just one lesson on the grip and basics.

The kid starts playing ball, and she can't get her to PI for any lessons. The PI forgets about the lesson, and life goes on.

Midway through the season, the PI goes to one of her games. They chat before the game. The kid says all she throws is a changeup and a fastball.

The kid starts pitching. First batter, she throws a rise. The PI kind of thinks, "Huh?" Then the kid throws another and another. It is obvious the kid is throwing a rise about every 5th pitch. The control isn't great, but it is definitely a rise.

After the game, the PI asks the kid about the pitch she was throwing. And the kid says, "When they want me to throw a high fastball, I use that funny grip you showed me. It is easier to get the ball up than with a fastball grip."
