I was wondering if anyone had any significant experience using the "Swing Away" as an aid to hitting instruction in girls fastpitch. We are using a hitting approach similar to Mike Epstein's as taught by Samantha Findlay.

Thanks,
Dave

Epstein sent out an e-mail last week saying that he is now selling the "SwingAway". He says it is better than a conventional tee. I'm looking into buying one for our travel team. I have no idea how durable they are.

We have the Solo-Hitter which is a similar concept. I like it. You get a lot of swings in. It is basically the same concept as hitting a tee into a net but without the tee.

IMHO, if you are practicing correct mechanics these are nice tools to get a lot of reps in but really isn't much different from something you can get from just hitting off the tee into a net.

If you need to practice in your bedroom or apartment, maybe. Other than that, what does it offer other than a lazy person doensnt have to pick up balls.?

A tee on a field is the best choice, where you can see the path of the ball, practice inside pitch pulling and outside pitch hitting too from the tee.
After that , a tee in a cage works OK if the cage is wide enough to see the flight of inside and outside pitches
After that, a tee into a net will do if it must.
After that maybe something like the swingaway. the net is what, 3' from the ball? you cant get any decent idea of flight direction, and it is surely affected by the bungee cords too.

Totally agree the feedback from hitting in a field from a tee, or into the back of a cage, can not be duplicated with a swing away or other type device.
