The Olympics are about celebrating heroics and heroes. Mr. Easton proved unable to rise to such standards. I'm not saying that any other members of the IOC are justified, just that Mr. Easton clearly failed to even try, and shall forever be remembered as a common rich fool who will vanish into obscure mediocrity.

Very far from what really happened!
The vote ended in a tie, with one abstention, an abstention that proved a rare display of ethical rectitude by an IOC member faced with a conflict of interest. It came from U.S. member Jim Easton, whose company makes and sells much of the softball equipment used worldwide.

One thing softball and baseball need to come up with is a way for it to be cost effective for softball and baseball to be back in, which I think they're working on.

My thoughts too! The cost of these building and subsequently what happens afterwards are not very favorable to the countries putting out Billions of dollars.

Ok, I'm sure I'm horribly naive, but why do they have to build expensive, specialized stadiums for softball? Just because the IOC poohbahs say so? The game is played perfectly well on bulldozed former fields and cow pastures all over this country. Put up some fences, restrooms and concession stands, bring in temporary bleachers for a few thousand and you'd have a decent venue, that they could easily convert to soccer fields afterwards. Isn't it really about the TV revenue? The TV won't care that the stands aren't comfortable, etc.

Very good ideas and point.

I am waiting for UsA to be kicked out all together because we won to many golds. Or for frisby and and dog breeding to become a sport over running an swimming I almost don't even want to watch. But hey I have fallen asleep quite nicely to ping pong and horse jumping. : ). Oh and can't forget the 4 hours of water polo a day. Throw it in a net and drowned the other person since I have yet to figure out any other strategy to that game. Lol.

Sorry still mad that I have to see billionaires on the basket ball courts and can't watch softball. Lol. But I see rugby as a sport entered. Or what's the new craze????? The ones with the little nets???? Lacrosse. It probably already is one we just don't hear anything about it over the rest.

I will stop my rant. Sorry guys : (. I guess my 9 year old was right she said its about money and when phelps on drugs got attention they didn't care how wrong it was he was famous so he swam. Or the gymnast who was done and risked injury to perform it was about the sponsors and the money not the national pride. I am thinking she might be on to something how sad

Really?. Lax just held their 19U world championships....in Turku, Finland. Yes, the US, Canada and Australia dominate, but why not. Presently, there are 27 active countries involved in the sport.

It is believed that lacrosse was developed as early as 1100 A.D. It became a mainstay in North America in the 1700s. Lacrosse was the lone national sport of Canada until 1994 when it was forced to share the position with ice hockey. Lacrosse was an Olympic medal sport in the early 1900s and a demonstration sport until the 1948 summer games. It is as demanding as any other Olympic sport especially if in the box. And the little goals are 6' square, smaller only to a soccer goal.

New craze? I don't think so.

Let me see. Phelps never tested positive and the only evidence of anything questionable were pictures of him allegedly smoking a bong for which he was suspended and you have a problem with that? Yeah, bet that 9yo will never wear a mask unless it is mandated.

Of course, it is all about the money. Show me something in today's world that is not.

I'd like to see more sports where the outcome is decided by a clear winner, and fewer "sports" where the outcome is decided by judges.

Softball and LAX fit into this category.

I almost don't even want to watch.
The beauty of the Olympic's is you get to see odd sports that you don't normally get to see played at the BEST level. In two weeks they are over for 4 years and best thing about it is, we don't even have to watch.

I've also got to see one of the best soccer games in my life, Alex Morgan, Blazing speed in track, Oscar Pistorius, beach Volley Ball and a group of 16 year old nail routines in a sport most of us couldn't dream. I guess I'm a glass half full guy. I'd LOVE to be watching Softball I agree.

Throw it in a net and drowned the other person since I have yet to figure out any other strategy to that game.
It is very similar to Ice Hockey. Its been in the Olympics since 1900 and if you watch for a few, its a pretty fun game. I know I wouldn't want to swim 8 miles every time I play a sport.

Not sure there has ever been a billionaire athlete yet. (Maybe Tiger Woods but that is still questionable) and Actually Soccer (football) and Tennis players make more per year that the NBA stars.

I guess my 9 year old was right she said its about money and when phelps on drugs got attention they didn't care how wrong it was he was famous so he swam.
That was in 2009, so your 9 y/o (then 5) knew he was pictured using a water pipe? Not sure many 5 y/o's know about that. I know mine don't.

The gymnast who was done and risked injury to perform it was about the sponsors and the money not the national pride
That was 1996, times were a ton different then. She had 2 torn tendons in her leg and landed that one leg. Are you sure she did that for the money? If anything it was for her pride as she was always know as a gymnast with talent but couldn't get it done on a big stage.

Yes, I was too shocked to learn the Olympics is about money. Isn't that what makes the world go round?

We agree on one thing, Softball should be back in the Olympics.

I was talking about natsia lukin and she was asked back and my daughter watched this and the phelps thing she reads the Internet as do most kids no none of it it is fact but it still leaves an impression on the kids and this is the athletes they watch that was the point I was making sorry really wasn't trying to tick anyone off. And as far as the NBAs salary it was not an exact figure I do not know what they make it was more the fact that they are payed athletes not amateurs.

Again sorry. And for lacrosse. Where we live it is not a sport played or even talked about until the last two years or even televised. I am aware that it exisisted but to me it is a new craze sorry for my wording. Now every sports store caries the gear and it is talked about and they even have a pro team in our state this year. So it felt new to me sorry.

Again wasn't trying to offend anyone this wasn't about that.

Sigh.

YES!!! Forget the subjective cr@p like rhythmic gymnastics, ice dancing and synchronized swimming, that is so prone to vote-fixing and scandal. (IMO, if you need make-up specialists and hairdressers, it's not a SPORT.) Egad!
