We go dark.

Most of our players are on a really serious time commitment for High School and there is no way they should be adding in even more softball until their HS season is over. And I actually think less of those who would demand it from them.

3 of our players are the ONLY travel players at their high school and team only practices once a week + games. They get together to work out on Saturday or Sunday and we come out to throw front toss/whatever.

We wont get together as a team until after States - we expect at least 1/2 of our players are on teams that will get down to at least the final 8 in their Class.

Our org mostly goes dark. DD is on the 12U team, so we have a mix of players who are on their middle school teams and some who have no school ball at all. Most are still involved in their Rec programs as well. The 12U team gets the benefit of getting some additional work with the Showcase coaches while the 16's and 18's are off playing HS. It's a light load until Memorial Day -- one practice a week and a second optional one, a one-day friendly and two tournaments.

Another of my 'favorite' Indiana rules is only allowing five players from a high school team to play together during the travel season (sarcasm font is on).

Yeah that rule makes it tough for girls who play travel within a community based program. The HS age travel teams have to find girls who live in the community that go to private schools.

I wouldn't want my DD to have practices with her travel team during HS season if it were allowed. You're already practicing or playing 5 or more days a week. There's not time for lessons during HS season either. I'm all about working hard but it would be kind of nuts.

In Indiana you can't practice with your travel team during HS season.

In Indiana any game played with any team other than your HS team is a one game for game suspension. Saw it happen with basketball too often. Kids thought they could jump in a local YMCA league or something only to get suspended. We live in WA now and there are no similar rules. You can play anything you want during HS season. DD 16A travel team is going dark other than 1 tournament during HS season.

Our team, 16u, is dark on games till late April. We start some Sat practices mid March. We did 5 weeks of Saturday winter indoor workouts/training.

Illinois also has rules against participating on an outside team during a high school sport's season. I think it's a good thing for all the reasons others have already mentioned.

we try and go every other sunday......we do light stuff, working on footwork at first base, tags at 2nd & 3b....outfield footwork.......very little physical work, no throwing......usually work things like bunting and other less strenuous stuff......maybe light BP

just to keep the girls getting together.......i'll usually talk to the varsity coaches ahead of time to reassure them as to our plan and what we are doing......very few object

we also tell the players & parents if they need a break, take the break

what makes it hard is all of our girls are 2-3 sport athletes......there's always something going on......summer basketball is a real PITA

Sounds like Indiana is just like Alabama. We can have no outside participation of any kind from the day of the first contest until the team plays it's last game. No group lessons or anything is allowed. A player can take one on one lessons but that is it. They cannot even play in a church league slow pitch game.
