Thank you all for your input. We had a good first game. We got clobbered, thankful for the 7 run per inning rule they cut the game at 55 minutes with a score of 16 to 1. At least we scored. We did bat through the entire line up. The girls were prepared in practice but they got nervous and the...
I have 12 girls on my roster, one who has only been to practice twice and plans to be on vacation after school gets out, so really I have 11 to play. I finally was able to get in touch with another coach who was under the same impression as I was, that we had to play "tournament style" play, his...
These are the rules I have been given. My 10U rep is the one that told me they had to play the same position throughout the game unless subbed for. She also told me they had to pitch from 43 feet so I don't know how accurate her knowledge is. It's usually the other coaches who chew me up and...
I'm not asking for a butt chewing. I am just trying to understand the rules which say if you don't have a sub then you take an out in the line up if someone gets hurt. Every game I have played someone had some reason they had to leave early or sit out because they got sand in the eye or took a...
I think that is my question. The rules only say 9 players unless the 2 extra players are used and a designated hitter is used then all 12 can be played . I know only 9 play on the field but I am confused about why using extra player option is better or worse than just using substitutions.
Please don't beat me with a worn out t-ball bat. I finally got those kicked of the field. ;)
So today is our first real game of the season. We had a scrimmage a couple weeks ago but it was just for fun so no scoring or line up worries, girls played all over for the experience. This year is our...
Yes! I love this. We implemented an MVP award this year that helped in the beginning of the season but then I'm a big softie and now everyone has won it. =( Waste of money, I know. Sigh. I'm digging the teammate encouragement thing you have going on there. We have some that communicate well and...
Our rule is no swimming. My daughter knows the rule and schedules her fun around it choosing her summer program field trips accordingly. She is committed becoming a better player in everything she does so she almost never complains. My parents however are a different story. I had one set that...
I think we should all be a fan of the game and the girls. Granted it is only 8U but I cheer for both teams when they make good plays, good hustle, nice hit, and I try to always clap and tell the ones that strike out good effort. Those kiddos are hard enough on themselves they need all of the...
Thanks everyone. I ended up finding one before the Saturday game. We only played two innings and had our *** handed to us by an 8U team that gets play 10U. I'm grateful for our can do, have fun attitude. Those girls might have won but they didn't look like they were having fun. =(
I know it's a dumb question and I think I know the answer but I will ask anyways.Tomorrow starts 5 games in 7 days then season is over. We started kid/coach pitch on Monday against a very leisure team so we didn't worry about it as I had ordered one and it hadn't arrived yet. Since then I found...
OK. When next season starts things may change but for now... Three of the girls pitching have a parent coach and at least one other will be trying out for the position, depending on who we pick up new. My plan is to have a couple of unbiased judges that don't know any of the girls come see the...
Ha ha! That is a funny question. We are supposed to have fun but many of the coaches that I have met are uptight and intense. They were the ones that ate me alive last year for my first year. We will have the D3K rule next year. I'm not sure what open home plate means so I still have much to...
Next week is our last week of 8U rec. Next year at least 7 of my 10 current girls are going to move up to 10U so I am preparing myself for a whole new set of rules. Hopefully they don't eat me alive next year..... Anyways, I have been chatting up many people and getting much needed help and...
I think, at least for this year 8U, I have the batting thing worked out. I'm down to 10 on my roster. Forgive my excel skills I haven't converted their averages to "normal" softball averages but rather percentages. It's on my long list of things to work off of. Unless we play a team with...
I agree. Our first game of the season my little first base player uncharacteristically caught a perfect throw, tagged the base, then cleanly dropped the ball. The entire opposing teams fan base erupted in laughter screaming "ha ha she dropped the ball". Broke her little heart. They never cease...
I read much and listen more and have many questions. If you could answer or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate. What is hello elbow? I have 8U so I really don't expect much more than hard work and dedication to learning the steps, but then that means I must learn them...
This stuff just makes me sick to my stomach. I tell my daughter all the time that monsters almost never look scary. They come in nice clean packages that look like people we are supposed to love or trust. 90% of the reason I coach is because I want to be a good role model and have a positive...
Hi all,
First time poster so please forgive my complete lack of knowledge and the abundance of dumb questions to follow. I'm in my second year coaching 8U (they ate me alive last year) and am willing to work harder than my girls to learn so I can teach them. I have zero, none, nada, no talent...
