    Catcher positioning

I recently had an umpire instruct my catcher she was too far over in the catcher's box. We were trying to intentionally walk a batter and she was positioned all the way over in the catcher's box. Is the catcher not allowed to be anywhere within the box? This is USSSA and I looked but I...

Legal position in the batter's box

Quick question for you umpires out there. Is there a legal requirement for where the batter must be before the pitch can be thrown in USSSA? More specifically do both feet have to be COMPLETELY in the box in order for the batter to be legally in the box before the pitch is thrown?

    Tryouts

With tryouts coming next month, I was wondering if any of you coaches and some "unconventional" ways to get the word out about tryouts. Just looking for some fresh ideas I may be missing.

    Illegal Substitution

USSSA rules... #11 hits reaches first and is pinch ran for by #7. Inning ends. #11 goes back out on defense the next half inning without being reported. First batter up hits a ball to #11 and she fields it and throws the batter out at 1B. What is the penalty, if any?

    Batting out of order?

R1 at 3B. Pop-up hit into foul territory R1 collides with F5, who is trying to make a play on the ball. Girl is called out for interference. Which was the third out of the inning. Next inning, the same batter comes to the plate. Is that correct or should have the next batter been the legal...

    Injured no subs

Batter is hit by a pitch. She is injured and can't go to 1B. The batting team has no subs. Is a pinch runner allowed? Is the girl allowed to re-enter? USSSA line up rules. Thanks.

    Coach Interference?

Line drive right at the 3rd base coach. Coach catches the ball. No fielders are moving to make a play. Is the batter out?

    Errors

At my wits end trying to figure out my teams problems on defense in a game. We do pretty well in practice with everything, but we struggle in games. Perfect example was this weekend. Leading 10-3 going into the last inning, we preceded to make 7 errors and give up 12 runs to lose 15-10. And...

    7-8 Year Old Division

Looking for some input on how others have handle this issue. In addition to coaching TB, I am also the President of our LL board. This year we want to add a 7-8 year old division instead of having all girls play in Minors (7-10). We don't want to have coach pitch. Also, understand the...

    Coach/Parent Dilema

Looking for some opinions on this issue that I will face in May. I coach a 14U team and my DD is a pitcher in 8th grade. She will be pitching for her HS Sophomore team and our TB team this Spring/Summer. Our TB team plays in a league on Wednesdays. We just got the schedule for the HS team...

Live pitching at practice...good or bad?

These posts was originally in a thread about organizing a practice. It is a good discussion so I started a separate thread....Moderator Ray My 14U (as well as the majority of other 14U teams) isn't the same as a D1 school. We still have pitchers/batters that struggle. Which is why it can...

    Sliding "rule"

Ok umps. What is the rule for sliding in ASA. I am under the impression that you never HAVE to slide, only avoid contact. Right or wrong? Also, can anyone point out where it is in the rule book so I can highlight it? Thanks.

    Sometimes you just never know

We are a very young and inexperienced first-year 14U team. Yesterday we played two games against two teams from the same organization. One 2nd year 12U team and one against a really good first-year 14U team. So, I figured we would go 1-1. Which we did, but not the way I thought. We hit...
