The program I use for scoring gives the option of including it.
If the runner beats the throw it’s an infield hit. If the ball is a catchable ball without unusual effort required it’s an error.
The NCAA Softball Scoring Guide says if the fielder is closer to home than the base at 1st or third it’s a hit no matter what fielder does.If a fielder takes more than 10 steps on a fly ball even if ball touches the glove, it’s scored a hit!

Batting average should only be a small part of evaluating a hitter. Especially because of the subjectivity of some scorekeepers. Hard hit balls and on base percentage are ones I look at more closely. Some weekends a girl could line out hard 3/4 times and another girls gets 3/4 hits on bloopers in the right spot. Hit the ball hard and don’t strike out a lot and you will keep most coaches happy.

Stat Trac. I agree looking into it further it’s wrong however. Batting Average is not good to base playing time solely on too. A batter can be up 10 times get three bloop singles and strike out seven times and hit .333. While another girl can hit the ball hard 10 times but only get two hits and hit .200 yet she moved runners and possibly got more RBI’s.
I once recommended to my Head Coach to bat a girl third when she was hitting only .200 in the tournament, reason she put the ball in play with runners on base. Result 3 RBI in next game!

I agree. Never was a big batting average -only fan, myself. My dd, as a slapper, probably has been charged with way more ROE than she deserves; but she puts the ball in the ball in play and makes things happen.

In college one time I hit the ball extremely hard and it ricocheted off the third baseman's foot, taking her out of the play. Another defensive player had to go get the ball.
Maybe some could say it was a hit that was too hot to handle. But they scored it as an error. I decided Well when the Fielder gets annihilated by the ball and gets taken out from being able to finish the play they have to call it something. Because they don't actually have a designation for the defense being taken out by the batter! 👍😉

Is this 10u? On the ground ball with a bad throw, if a good throw gets the out it is an error.

We’d Have to see the line drive to know. My friend recently barely got his glove on a line drive. He deflected it off his face. That was an error.

On the ground and if it looks like the runner would have beat out the play if it was a good throw, should be scored a hit even if overthrown. It’s definitely difficult to determine without seeing the play and only going by what the OP stated.
