When I first heard they were trying out the automatic B/S in minors I just assumed it would be every pitch. But when read about the other version, I thought it was brilliant. Not only does it give the batter a chance to correct a bad call, it adds a whole new drama to when and if they will challenge without taking the umpire out completely.

Won't be shocked if the challenge version comes to majors soon. Did anyone see card from Laz Diaz.....yikes?
Just to be clear they do it on every pitch for half of the games.

Right. I didn't even know there was another option they were thinking about testing until it had already started. I was thinking if they went to an automated system it would just be every pitch.

The challenge system is a compromise I never even considered, but kind of like it.

While I prefer all the calls to be auto it's a really good compromise. There is definitely some strategy to it as you don't want to do it on a 1-0 pitch in the 2nd inning but a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded....

No, no you really don't and no, no it really isn't.

Granted, that was under the old Trackman (Garbageman?) system.

It's funny somebody (sorry, it was on the previous page) mentioned "like tennis." MLB has been using the Hawkeye system that tennis uses. Trackman tried to pinpoint the ball using various radar data points, whereas Hawkeye actually tracks the pitch and provides a better recreation of the flight path.

As I said, I actually am a fan of the challenge system. Here is a look at it in action:

I still don't like that the zone is portrayed as a 2D box though.

🤣 that looks more like batters that don't want to be wrong finding out they should have swung.
2x embarrassing LOL

Nice to have a video replay but yeah I can see how it adds some drama.
Drama...🙄

MLB is experiencing a record number of ejections up to this point in the season. I think the most recent one on CCS was #185. It is amazing how many of those ejections have come from players arguing calls that were *gasp* correct.

And the issue with the system it still assumes that the strike zone is a fixed ratio from the top of the knees to the top of the zone, which is not anatomically correct. I think close call sports has covered this as well. To be accurate you would need to data points from every player and assume they have the same stance. Which is not accurate.

The worst manager about this is Mr. Yankee. Aaron Boone. Argued a call that was a strike according to strike o matic and then said the pitch may have been a strike but he missed of others.

He's almost if not worse, than Larry Bowa.
