Teaching hitting Carrier/Bustos approach

I work a lot with rec hitters in an informal setting. The top video of Bustos interested me, what is it from?

Older one teaching younger ones swing in slow motion

Sisters, one a freshman, one a senior. Both going yard same game. Senior with me since grade school. She signed to college. Senior going opposite field

Reverse hand swing. This helps to use the lead arm more in the swing. Most students are too back arm dominate. Using the lead arm will have you hit more rising line drives. This girl hit 50 hr. in high school. Been with me since 5th grade. Signed Division 1. She has a right handed Ken Griffey swing...IMO
Warning on the drill. I normally only do about 8 of these. Regular bat, regular ball. If a student is not strong enough for swinging there game bat with one hand, I have pvc bats and tennis balls

Grip. We teach all the students this grip. Its like a hook. A bit like a gold grip. Bat is in top pad and fingers. With a radar gun, it increases bat speed 3-5 mph. Every student you see of mine will have this grip.

Fielding Mechanics
5th grade perfect fielding IMO.
Throwing arm for balance, Nice glove tuck for throwing harder. Hands meet at cheek to get throwing arm high, so you throw down hill.

@straightleg Back in the day the Bustos slo-mo gif was criticized to no end. Rightfully so imo. You do not swing it that way fast or slow. He was apart of the inside out lag slice method. But tried to compensate w a top hand push drill Bc he like the rest of the gurus did not know how to rotate. Use of the lead arm was overcooked to mask the lack of rotation/speed. Along w the Elvis move. Slapping of the back w the bat is still seen around here and there. Too much arms too soon imo. A result of too much lag. Lag should be a result of timing not an active mechanic.

It seems you have learned a few things since then. Kudos! But to say Carrier(RIP)had it right is wildly overstated.

I do have those DVDs somewhere unless I sold them at a garage sale. Not sure. I will review and ask some questions if you don’t mind?

We teach a slow motion swing. Howard always referred to it as like teaching martial arts. The swing is taught in slow motion first.
Sequence. Load inside of legs, gather a little energy, Step out and separate. Elvis move gets hips started, while hands are till behind the stripe of the pants. Parallel to contact ( which Bustos is doing). Release wrists contact.....Then extension which just happens if you start right.

How do you snap in slow motion?
