It doesnt matter WHAT you do for a living.

It matters because people are not working and falling behind on their mortgage payments and fear losing their house.

As stated by Texas heat, if Sweden's model works we will have been duped. I can hear the excuses already....You cant compare blah blah blah.

One person tell me how it is OK for me to go to home depot or grocery store with my DD but not OK for me to play catch with DD at the park or go on a hike or bike ride or surfing or boat ride or fishing or ect.

Part of the frustration is the restrictions do not make common sense.
Once again, you cannot compare 320 million Americans, one of the most ethically different countries in the world with 10 million homogeneous Swedes, its nonsense.
No, it is really not ok to go to the grocery store or home depot (definitely not with DD) but you have to go to get food and fix your house, etc.

You are absolutely right about unemployed people feeling the stress and the worry about bills and mortgages, but if you (like me) are still employed and your frustrated that you can't go to the park to play catch with your DD, well, I just don't know what to say about that.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have a couple of UPS employees in the family too, as well as some doing grocery deliveries. Those companies are doIng very little to protect their frontline workers and it’s very frustrating.
No problem. Sorry for the misunderstanding. We hear the same, that companies aren't doing much to protect these workers. Hope everyone stays safe!

My 2 cents on this: Some folks are all in and will do whatever they are told. Others don't want to be told what to do by the govt., ever. I'm somewhere in the middle and a big issue with a lot of is in knowing that the govt. is loath to relinquish power. I live in KY, where the people were protesting. I think it was stupid but I understand the frustration. Our numbers have moved pretty slowly throughout this despite what our Governor keeps saying. He does nightly updates and last nights numbers were: 2,429 cases and 129 deaths statewide. That's an increase of 138 cases and 8 deaths, statewide, since Tuesday. Instead of being positive he comes on bragging about the field hospital they have set up with the help of the National Guard yet we keep hearing that hospitals aren't very busy and staff if being sent home. He also banned drive through Easter services, had local police take down plate numbers at churches that had services anyway and sent those people orders to quarantine for 14 days. Yet abortion clinics and liquor stores remain open. I'm not a religious person but I can understand their frustration. The negative talk causes people anxiety, I have seen it first hand with my wife. This is getting to her and she is normally not that person. I would personally like to see our state take a hard look at softening the restrictions by May 1 and slowly ease things throughout May. Probably won't happen though since he has now joined 6 other states in a pact to implement reopening yet only 2 of them are bordering states. Somehow what we do affects Wisconsin? I could care less about rushing back on the field, we'll get there eventually and are practicing more than we ever have at home.

We def have to look at this thru eyes of the unemployed as well...people that have jobs, yeah, lucky for you. Tell that to the millions that dont and also do not have nice bank accounts to order out or buy food, and the thousands of small businesses making zero dollars now. If you dont think something bad could happen...wait til these idiots stockpiling everything cause more issues as up in the northeast, store meat supplies are going fast because one person buys a ton and the next person does the same. Now many cant get anything. I live in the country in PA, and its starting to filter down here.

I was all on board with locking down for 2 or 4 weeks...you keep extending, you will have issues that may
be more dangerous than the virus. No food and no money in pockets...bad combo. I for one, am sick
of seeing millionaires on TV telling us its all ok and we just need to stay home. Thats easy when you have
boatloads of money and never a shortage of food when its being brought right to your door. No, they are
not in it together with the middle class and under. Also sick of seeing weasel Bill Gates apparently who is now a virus expert and having influence on us working class. Have you checked how much stock Bill Gates has bought since this economy has tanked...yeah, he isnt sitting still. He is going to profit huge on this pandemic AND profit huge on this tracking system. I dont trust anything he has to say that he says will help the regular people in this country.

We need to start re-opening slowly, but it needs to start fairly soon. Im ok not opening up the whole country in one swoop, but small businesses and their employees have to get going.

Sorry for the rant and it wasnt meant towards any persons comments.

Let me put a PS here, since someone cant read. Because I dont think Gates is transparent as other people think, doesnt mean I hate rich people like someone drew a conclusion on because they like Gates and got mad. I can fully not like someone, and it means exacty that, I dont care for HIM...thats it! Just because I said people with money arent dealing with the same issues as regular America is, doesnt mean I think all rich people are thieves or liars..haha. Its pretty factual, people with a lot of money ARE NOT in the same situation as the rest of America. Nothing against them, its just the truth. You arent going to see Oprah down at the local Walmart/Weis/Shoprite dealing with empty meat sections and a dwindling checking account because they dont have a job or their small business has been closed for months. And with the SBA corona virus loan fund set up for helping small businesses giving 10s of millions of dollars to big businesses, who knows if many of the little business people will get anything out of it.

And it also doesnt mean I dont value life...all deaths are horrific no matter what...but that means from
the flu/starvation/poverty/crime...along with this virus now. Just at some point, you have
to let the economy open up and relieve the stress this is causing the American people. Whether that means people wear masks in stores or limit people or whatever. People need to get back to work or there may be bigger issues than the virus. Maybe means the most compromised people have a choice to stay in for now but the rest can get back to work.

All of a sudden people care about the poor? There were kids, through no fault of their own, who could barely afford to eat one meal a day before all of this..I didn't hear much about them on Fox News....just sayin'

Millions of people didn't have an emergency fund. Interesting when this was the best economy in the history of the world. Guess it wasn't. It's sad to me that we live in a country where missing one paycheck causes such disaster for families. That same phenomenon is why many are forced to risk their health to get back to work.

I don't think anybody is suggesting that. What people (e.g. me previously in this thread) are suggesting is that holding off for an extra month than what might absolutely be necessary might be better off for the economy in the long run than going back too early and then having shutdowns periodically for the next few years because of spikes in infection. If people don't know if they are going to have a job from month to month they are less likely to go out and spend their hard earned money. Of course "the long run" is different for different people, for some what happens after November is an afterthought..

Hopefully a vaccine is developed quickly such that this (the spikes) doesn't happen. If the powers that be are given information in the next month or so which points to a quick development of the vaccine they will likely open things back up sooner.
People are expressing viewpoints thats all. Notice in reading several of the opinions expressing encouraging the lock down in concern for the virus are not expressing consideration for the detriment of the lockdown itself. I am of the observation that half the population is currently active working in the community at this time.
The rest will need to, at some point, return as it will be essential regardless of this particular virus.
All the charts on numbers have not represented a compairison to this essential equasion.

That's not fair. He's got a foundation that's doing what it can to track things. Ideally, the government would have done that, but the mechanisms aren't in place. But all the IHME is doing is collecting data and trying to project it. There's nothing nefarious about it, and frankly, condemning a guy who's given away about 36 billion dollars is harsh. If anything, the IHME models have done a lot to take away people's concerns about the virus -- remember when the experts were talking about 2.2 million deaths? At least providing everyone with data -- again, which should have been the government's job -- gives people a somwhat accurate idea of what is going on.

There is no bad guy in any of this. Not Trump, not Biden, not Pelosi or McConnell. Not Gates, not Fauci or Birx. Not even, in my opinion, China. It's a bug that went form animals to people and then spread. It sucks, it happens, it will have long-last repercussions, but it's not anything anyone did, and vilifying anyone for it seems a touch extreme.

He also giving money to build facilities to test and develop the vaccines in parallel to speed up the process. Is he going to lose money in the end, probably not, so what. Billionares make a million dollars every time they sit on the toilet.
