First, talk to your DD, and find out what she wants to do. This is about her journey, not yours. Then...

1. "Thank you, Mr. Coach, for the opportunity for my DD to learn and grow on your team this year, but it's time for us to make a change. We appreciate your time and effort, and wish you much success."

2. Accept the new situation, and make the best of it.

Thank you everyone, for your input!! It's hard to put emotions aside!
DD just wants to stay with her catcher, so we were hoping to keep the core of our team together! We have a few more tournaments to play, so we will see how it all plays out!

So the current coach isn't being selfish, by moving his kid up, but I am for wanting to have tryouts to fill the spots with girls all the same age?

All my DD has wanted for 5 years of travel ball is to find a group of girls she likes and stay together. We've done everything in our power to give her that and have failed miserably every single year. If this coach has managed to keep the bulk of the team together in the flighty travel ball world, that's impressive. What does your daughter say about all this? Does the coach play daddy ball? If not, why does it matter if a couple of younger players are warming the bench? Reading between the lines, is it because your DH wants to be the head coach and it's not going to happen now?

Really doesn't matter who is being what. And there is nothing you can do about it any way.

In the end the only kid you have control over where they play and for who is the one living on your house. Everyone else makes their own decisions for their own kids.

Nothing is stopping you having a tryout and making a team. Just that other families on your current have decided something different for THEIR kid, so you will have to find other players if you want to do the whole coaching a team thing.

It's not about who is right or wrong or selfish in this situation.
You need to find a situation where your daughter is happy and the org needs to find a team at the level of play they feel they should be competing at and the team needs to be one that won't implode due to drama.
Carrying the 2 younger girls may or may not be the right decision for them.
You staying with this team or finding another team may or may not be the right decision for you.
If you want your daughter playing with all 08s, you may have to find another team.

Sorry if this ground has been covered I haven't caught up with all replies.

This is the first season this team has been together. There are a few rotten eggs on the team, but for the most part they all get along!

I think that what really sucks is that this would all have been avoided if HC would have just stuck to the original plan!
But because we questioned it, we are the bad guys!

At the end of the day, DH would be fine being an AC, as long as we had a HC that is 100% available to the team.
