Virtual tournament director
Stupid question - What does VTD stand for? I have been to the site and checked it out. Just curious.
We are starting a new TB team in Texas. I know that this is a huge undertaking and I would love any advice and or information on "how to".
We are primarily a 2007 team with 1-2 2008 girls. Here is the dilemma: We can play 10u in USA softball until Dec 31st, and then move to 12u Jan 1. We would have to start playing 12u in Utrip tourneys this fall. FASA would also require us to be 12u. USFA has a new 11u classification we could play in.
This would normally not be a huge deal, but since we would be encountering a bigger ball, longer pitching distance, and a few rule adjustments, I am confused on where to start. If we only play 10u in USA through the end of the year, we would take some lumps, and then have to repeat taking lumps in the spring with the move up. If we just move up now, we will get our heads knocked off (I assume) for the fall and maybe lose some confidence.
Please help.
I like the idea of having them play 12U in the fall.
The biggest difference in age groups is between 10U and 12U.
My DD 3 is a pitcher, and at one point she was trying to pitch 10U and 12U at the same time. Some girls can do that, she couldn't. She was playing 12U in Little League, and was on the 10U all-star team at the same time. She finally gave up pitching 12U until she was finished with 10U tournaments, then went back to pitching 12U.
Not just the move from 35' to 40', but also the different size of the ball. It is a change for both the hitters and the pitchers, some more than others.
Also, you will sometimes find rules in 10U tournaments such as no stealing, or coach pitching instead of walks, four outfielders, or only one base on an overthrow, etc. The lower level tournaments may have these sort of rules, but the bigger tournaments won't.
Which makes 10U softball often a very different game from 12U softball.
So I like the idea of moving the girls up in the fall. It gives them more time to get used to the different rules.
USFA has the 11u classification, but I’ve yet to see a tournament with just that age group. Dd is on an all 06 team. We played fall in 12u and took our lumps (and keep on taking them, lol).
