Was wondering how long it would take into the season before someone resurrected this old thread lol.

I watched Game 2 where Cheri discussed KB and Game 1 and her 6 IPs. I give the SEC network and Cheri some credit for no shying away from the issue like they did last year. There were several camera angles of the IPs and Cheri acknowledged that why she did not feel KB was crownhopinng (i.e. getting a second push) she clearly showed and described the illegal leap. She also went on to say that she feels the college women should pitch under the international rules, which i agree with. IMO, On the video of her no hit highlights she seemed to not leap as much as last season but i did not see the whole game.

The bottom line is that KB will pitch the way she has always pitched with inconsistent enforcement and this game will go until she graduates from college. The fact will remain that she spins the ball incredibly well and throws her riseball on three separate planes which is the primary reason she is the dominant pitcher that she is.

I am watching the game in the bottom of 2 and Kempf has been talking about it already. Her commentary comes out of a bottle that was corked in 1985.

Regardless of KB...as President of the regional Gold travel league (100+ teams), I have instructed the umpire association who services us to call illegal pitches after 1 warning.

I could give a damn about what the rule is...really...I believe the REAL issue is that the rule too ambiguous...IMO when in doubt it is ILLEGAL...KB had 6 illegals on Friday!

Call it BLUE!

I don’t understand your logic. You don’t care about the rule; you state the rule is ambiguous (i.e. unclear or in exact); and therefore you have instructed umpires to call it an illegal pitch every time? You have an interesting perspective. I would think most reasonable people would NOT call something illegal unless they were absolutely sure that it was in fact a violation of the rule before making the call.

Well, Barnhill got called for 6 illegal pitches vs Kentucky on 3/9/18 and 1 Illegal pitch on 3/11/18. Cheri Kempf was doing the game today. She spent 2+ innings defending Barnhill but eventually had to change he opinion when Barnhill was called for an IP. Cheri also did a video segment(why would she do that if Barnhill was pitching legal) on how Barnhill was pitching Legal. It was a sorry attempt at trying to convince us "non educated ones" on why she was pitching legal. Cheri and the announcer made a comment in the later innings that Barnhill "IF" she is pitching Illegal she as the ability to change.

I hope other watched. I would like your take on them defending and coming to the back of Barnhill(wouldn't expect anything else from Cheri).

And people wonder why the NPF is circling the drain with her at the helm. The rule has not changed, it is not ambiguous yet suddenly the umpires are able to see and call Barnhill for IP's. What happened? Free Lasik in the off season? Yet another season with NCAA softball looking more and more like WWE.

It does look like Kelly has been working on not hopping as much. She is keeping the toe of the drag foot connected MUCH more often this year. Cheri was talking a lot about how we should not be taking anything away from how amazing KB is as a pitcher by always talking about her illegal pitch. I think there is some truth to that. She is a local girl to us and we watched her when she was younger. She has amazing speed and spin, and is dominating in the circle. I was glad to see the umpires calling IP on her, as it keeps her accountable and she can continue to make adjustments to be legal. As for calling IP, I think blue should absolutely call it if it is illegal. One warning per game is sufficient. A true crow hop is not legal in any organization that I know of.

I was too vague when I said I could give a damn about the rule...it really should have read I could give a damn about how the rule is currently written...too ambiguous...and now because the base advancement is not applicable to NCAA so now they are going to call it?

Silly...why bother having a rule if it is a:) unclear and b:) inconsistently enforced
