Alabama using the down to it and through it tees? wth?

Could never understand hitting coaches and drills that promote hitting down on the ball unless you are teaching slapping techniques. The visual cue is the more like the Nike swoosh, but tilted slightly. The bat parh to create the swoosh would never work with this tee.

RHC, Do you consider this (Cabrera) dumping? If not, what would Cabrera need to do (at the very least) to turn his swing into a dump?

Cabrera is not 'dumping' the barrel in this clip.

An over enphasis of the early bottom hand action can lead to dumping the barrel. If you understand the coupling of the hands at swing initiation, take a swing with an over emphasis of the bottom hand and under emphasis of the top hand ..... the feel of the bat head dumping action will be unmistakable.

To me, the RELEASE is the most enjoyable portion of the swing ..... can't imagine purposely bypassing such a great feel.

Imo, that's not at all a drastic angle of "down to". In fact you would have to REALLY be under the ball to hit that bar.

bass, that wasn't directed toward anyone here. it was a dig at the "whip drill".

RHC, IMO you are on the money with regards to the benefit of this drill. Live arm and games speed will yield a different hand and barrel path, but it's a better swing thought - staying above the ball - and produces more squared up balls.

One other thing. Many use the hands/barrel interchangeably when discussing "swinging" up/down. The hands should come down to a slot and then extend level. While that is happening, the barrel should/usually continues down to the ball (remember the hands are above the ball). The barrel bottoms out and then ascends. The ascension is usually only a couple of frames compared to many downward barrel moving frames. Is there any wonder why ML think they swing down? Unfortunately, folks on the boards have focused on the few frames of ascension, and they have made a cottage industry of it. Been like that for years. I like where RHC is going with this. It's not popular, but it is correct.
