DD perspective on "Just throw strikes" is "what the heck do you think I've been trying to do out here?". LOL. She never found that one helpful at all. Fortunately, we left most of that behind in 10U.

One of my favorites is "the key to winning this game is to score more runs than them". Ya think? Guy could be an announcer for WCWS.

The stupidest thing that a coach ever said to me occurred when I was playing Babe Ruth baseball. The third base coach mistakenly sent me home. The 200+ pound catcher was waiting for me in front of home plate with the ball. At the time, I weighed all of about 110 pounds. Right before the inevitable collision I heard the coach say, "You've got to hit harder than him!". I, wisely slid early, avoided the collision, and let him tag me out.

DD's hs coach offers no advise in the box other than "hit dat ball" (with a loud redneck accent)....
The ac tells every single batter regardless of the speed of pitcher or timing of the bat..."yer late hun, gotta get dat foot down sooner"... we hear this even after dd puts one in the third base dugout.... idiots

My latest favorite is when an experienced hitter swings at a really high pitch and both 1B and 3B coach feel the need to tell them to lay off the high pitches. They act like they imparting some new found wisdom to the batter.

Heading to a showcase...This is a big tournament and we have to win so I will only be playing those players who are going to help us win and I will play them in the positions I think they can help us win.

Players asking what they need to do to improve and earn more play time...Players are beginning to complain about playing time and where I am playing them. I do not want to hear it anymore. We have to win games and I will do whatever I think is best to win games. We are not developing players here. We are trying to win games.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Tell me this was 8U because it makes the story truely wonderful ...(and horribly sad)

Plus the Idea of this guy taking girls to a 8U 'Showcase' is beautiful...

Any mechanical advise given during the course of a game, be it pitching, hitting, ect. No one is going to be able to correct thousands of reps they should have had in practice based on some mouth-breathers spoken "advice" in the middle of an at-bat. I mark big "X"s in my mind every time a coach says "level swing".

Back when I knew it all I would occasionally opine my entitled view of how to correct things.

What I learned is that a mouthful of sunflower seeds cures the " insert hoof in mouth and appear to be an as$wipe" scenerio. The outer kernal of a sunflower seed is virtually inedible and you will choke attempting to swallow them, thus ones mouth is prevented from yelling out great thoughts to those between the lines.

After a year or so of almost choking myself, I stopped shouting out and now very rarely say anything at any game other than "Nice Play" "Nice catch" "Great Hit" or the DD on the wat home "are you hungry or do you want ice cream".
