Gotcha! Semi-spiral going down/in to a RHB is the goal when learning whip/IR. If she's hanging on and releasing late/past the hip she may get crop spin. Or she might just be IRing a touch early and getting a good crop. Tough to say without video.

And sorry to add to your confusion. The down/in spin is used as a screwball or cutter.

If the ball is curving away from a RHB, then it sounds like she's getting her fingertips outside the ball rather than inside the ball.

I actually threw curves when I was teaching myself through BM's drills to make sure I was using IR as efficiently as I could. I think I did this because I threw curves with an "on top of the ball" grip when I pitched and I still sometimes teach curve balls this way. This pitch extends what is seen as natural IR (even though IR has to do with the bicept/forearm interaction, not the wrist/fingers interaction) by continuing this motion through the wrist and fingertips with the fingers pointing down.

If I'm reading this right, the only thing you need to change is to have your daughter focus on keeping her hand/fingers inside the ball. The spin you want is a 12/6 drop spin but the axis will be off kilter somewhat towards third base. BM has a gif somewhere that shows this.

Basically, she needs to have her fingers behind the ball, and then flick or peel the release with her fingers between the ball and her body to obtain this spin. I hope this makes sense. You're probably not far off.

HOF.........You are correct......You do not want "FB or Drop" to be curve spin........Because it will limit her ability to throw inside and rise.......You want Curve ball and possibly change (depending on which change) to have curve ball spin......

See if she can get the ball to roll of the outside of her index finger during an I/R release...........

Thanks for your responses.

Outside of tip of finger or middle of finger?

Does anyone have a close up slowed down vid of release. Bm is great for seeing the spin. Amanda Scarborough's may be the best one for seeing the actual release for those of us still struggling to grasp the release point and what it takes to properly obtain the correct spin.
