The Humerus stops BECAUSE the energy is SUCKED OUT OF IT by the forearm/wrist internally rotating...........
This is why BM gets paid the big bucks... great description...
JJ, I think you get it, actually.
The Humerus stops BECAUSE the energy is SUCKED OUT OF IT by the forearm/wrist internally rotating...........
I'll put my 2 cents into this situation. I've never used the words "plant the elbow into the side".......Nor would I.........
I've said this before.........And I'll repeat it here again........

If you complete a circle with the arm........and then THROW THE BALL with the forearm/wrist INternally rotating, the humerus WILL DECELERATE/BECOME STABLE ON IT'S OWN.......
In ANY/ALL of my drills..........There is VERY LITTLE "brush interference"..........I'm NOT using my arm to slam/plant into any part of my body to STOP my humerus.........
My upper arm stops because my lower arm TAKES the energy developed and uses it to propel the ball.........
Contact shouldn't be the focus. It happens when everything else is in place. She has so many good things in place that I'm wondering if contact was emphasized at some point? Are you saying that the elbow never makes contact with the hip/side?

Yes Ken, i have told her to pull her elbow in and allow the arm to whip. Apparently that is the wrong thing to say.

Hello all, while pitching the other night my DD tells me she must be "planting" too hard because her hip was hurting a little bit....just above and behind the bony spot.
as has already been suggested,
rather than thinking about elbow contact (or "planting" as she calls it)
it might be beneficial to think more about making *light* contact with the tricep area with the front-edge of ribs cage, or pectoral muscle.
Sounds like her current mind-set is that she needs to jam her elbow to her side and "lock it in" (to use an I/R terminology)?
Overall, she is impressive, I think.
Pretty hard to read the comments that break her down so severely, in general.
She's what? 10, 11 years old?
I'd say she looks pretty dang good.
Sure, there's always aspects to work on, but she's not nearly a "start over" candidate!
Seems like learning a "full whip" for young pitchers is a hard hurdle to clear?
I notice in this clip, vid of my own 10U DD and others, that they always seem like they could get better hand/ball lag flowing in to the release zone. Most young pitchers I see who are working on IR mechanics seem unable to hold that palm-up position much past 10:00 or 9:00 and also the looseness/elbow bend seems to tighten-up a little, too.
Amateur Statement:
So, upper arm IR is happening a little early, and some of the "overlap" of upper arm rotation coupled with lower arm rotation is lost?
To me, it looks like your DD has completed a good portion of Upper arm IR before she makes that elbow contact w her side? Like, perhaps she is using the side contact w elbow to time her release? When I believe upper arm contact should slightly *precede* lower arm IR and release. And "Brush Interference" relates to lower arm contact, which occurs *at* release?
Are you saying that the elbow never makes contact with the hip/side?
