How/when does the rear elbow slot?

How/when does the rear elbow slot? Does it slot as part of the swing or does it slot independently. I see many swings where the elbow is slotted (around heel plant) and the bat is still vertical. When my DD’s elbow slots, the bat is almost in a lag position.

My DD’s never really slots her elbow. At least not in the traditional sense. My DD’s rear elbow “slots” as she swings the bat. It simply passes by her hip.

I am looking for an explanation/information of how the rear elbow should work. We’ve started doing shaft to shoulder drills to feel the rotation or turn. But we need to work on how to get there.

I’ve been using the attached gifs as reference.

I’ve seen what your saying. Video would be nice, one that comes to mind is David Wright. He has a tight sequence.

This is a high pitch, so naturally the elbow doesn’t slot as much. I have better swings. Do you have video?

Thanks Shawn. I’ve noticed that during front toss or live pitching, she will flatten the barrel as she drops the rear elbow (never tight against the body unless she’s jammed).

Here is a short video -

One more thing. I’ve been playing around with this drill for a few weeks. I noticed is that by flattening the bat behind me, the elbow naturally slots. I haven’t worked on this with my DD yet.

The way he shows it is slotting, in a bad way. The barrel shouldn’t flatten out.

Slotting is back arm abduction.
