These (Scarborough and Pauly) are FANTASTIC! Thanks FFS!

Now, I can't seem to save these as clips. Whenever I try, they just save as a picture. Any suggestions?

Hey Doug,

It's most likely the internet browser you are using. If you minimize this window so you can see your desktop, drag and drop it. If it still saves as a single frame gif, try right-clicking and save as. Firefox and Chrome should handle either. If you're using Internet Exploder... well... you shouldn't...

Lastly, gif's can't be viewed in some standard image programs. Try opening it with your internet browser, by either dragging it into it, or by right clicking and Open With... option.

This assumes you're running Windows... Cheers ~ JS

That last Sarah Pauly clip is simply mesmerizing, not so much with what's going on where the arrow is pointing (although that's important), but that whole release sequence/action in motion. As I see it, that clip alone is about as rich as it gets in terms of its educational value working with pitchers.

P.S. Saving the clip.... What ended up working was saving it as a gif and opening it with QuickTime. I was simply double clicking on the file and getting nothing but a single-frame picture.

Doug ... that to me is what it is ... a "release" sequence. Being that it is a "release", the action leading up to it is pretty key IMO.

Oh, I agree! It's just how fascinating the release actually is. It's one thing to describe it. It's much more to show it, as done by an elite pitcher. Thanks for posting it! Very useful.

Thanks FFS for the snapshots and GIF. I’ve saved both of these off of YouTube and have repeatedly shown them to the girls I’m working with. Yesterday I made a recording of one of my students with a GoPro 2 set at 120 FPS. Using an editing feature in VLC I was able to slow that down considerably. Although she’s trying to snap/whip/rotate her wrist you can see she’s actually getting her palm behind the ball and snapping a conventional wrist snap. We’ll continue to work on whipping versus pushing it until it becomes automatic. For me and the student I think the greatest aid is pitching with a striped ball. This gives both the student and PC instant feedback. It has to spin at 1 to 7 and it has to spin fast enough that you can actually hear it trying to bite the air. When it’s right, you’ll know and so will the student.

She looks a little tight at the end, loosen that up and the whip will come more naturally (going through this with my DD right now) It can't whip if the muscles are tense.

Willy ... IMO there are a few flaws from the very start that are limiting things a bit.

I like the more balanced start in Sarah Pauly's demonstration and how the motion begins with a step forward from there. What I didn't like in that demonstration is what you appear to be copying. IMO the ball should be facing the catcher towards the top (12 O'Clock), and your daughter is doing the opposite.

Look at Amanda's slow-mo pitch ... the ball is facing the catcher at 12 O'Clock.

Funny you should mention this. The following is a clip of a young lady I worked with just tonight. I see her as being a bit floppy due to her extreme lankiness. But then again, maybe that, together with her long fingers, is why I think she has potential, even if she's just starting.
