Isn't that what you say is supposed be thought of? Use the hands and the body will do what it's supposed to? Now, you say he has a problem because his lower half isn't working right, because he is all hands. You sound like the people you criticize. What is it? Do the hands magically make the lower half work, or not?

Yes and no. He is not using his hands. He is using his arms but I see where you are coming from. I think that he was having an issue with his rear hip. So therefore it wasn't clearing like it should. His hands couldn't work.

Whatever. You don't understand what I described. And, what you say is bio-mechanical nonsense.

Again, this is the practical side. How about this. You stay on the technical side and explain bio mechanically what you see happening and I will stay here and explain how to make it happen. In other words. You will teach people anatomy and I will teach them how to be hitters not swingers.

At the 1.00 minute mark he says drop the head right on top of the ball. At the 1.25 mark he demonstrates the downward swing, in which he moves his hands downward all the way to extension, full on downward plane, lineal hand path.. crossing the plane.

Please, this is Barry Bonds, i am nobody. But, will you tell your students to swing down on the rise ball,or a high strike, and chop, creating backspin, to make it go out of the park? IS this even what he means. I would and do, tell them not to drop their hands, keep the hands above the ball. On the other hand, i do use throwing the barrel drill, many of my younger players throw bats, they love it.

I think i get what you are saying, swing lineal, just add tilt to it, that is what MLB swingers do.
I have looked at Bonds swinging, and his hand path does not do this. SOME hitters hands do drop, more so on low pitches, all arcing swing paths, less so on outside pitches. Most stay right at the shoulder as they turn. None seem to have the old school down to extension swing, and this is what Bonds does, at the one minute mark.
(i wish i could type better, my thoughts would be better presented).
To me, its the do what i say, not what i do thing Hyp.

You admit that you no little about bio-mechanics, yet you continue to argue with me. Why?

The scapula moves in conjunction with moves of the humerus. Now, answer your own question.

How was my question an argument? I simply asked a question of you, the all knowing OZ. I asked if I could move my elbow back behind me without the scap getting tight? I know I can. In fact it gives me to much of a range of motion. When I say tight I mean connected to the spine. as in a flexed state.

Then I asked if I could pull the scap tight and cause the rear elbow to poke back? For me when I try this. I don't have the same range of movement. The scap gets tight quicker and only moves my hands around the "corner" a little. Creating a quicker connection.

try to keep it short. My wife is getting on me right now for being on the computer all the time. This is what they do. It is just on a different plane. It is short and quick.

If you're thinking anything but "swing down" against 85 mph or faster, you won't hit the ball. The mechanic is turning the barrel in conjunction with the lower body. The thought needs to be hammering down with the top hand. MLB players do swing down. It gets turned into the plane of the pitch by the body.

Mike Candrea does not teach to swing down. Candrea's teams play against pitchers that see reaction times that are shorter than that of 85mph baseball pitches and his teams year in and year out seem to do very well.

Did you see the Sue Enquists drill? stop the early hip rotation, that is BAD.

What year were these videos made. No wonder small ball became so popular in softball.
Parker has the girls rotational video. He opened my eyes to this whole elite swing thing when i met him at a college clinic. His system works very well. mixed with some snf stuff, and knowing coil uncoil, its a veryvery good system.
