Take note of the first pause in the GIF below ... going into that pause you see the rear leg abducting & uncoiling ***AS*** the hands are drawn back into a strong punch-like orientation ... in a sense the drawing rearward of the hands is maintaining a coiling of the upper body, despite an uncoiling of the lower body.

Are you saying the rear hip is uncoiling?

The rear hip is constantly coiling. Look at the direction the rear hip starts as it coils. It doesn't change the direction. It continues in the direction of the coil and then goes through the inside of ball. Does that make sense?

Uncoiling would mean that it coils and then gives up the coil which would create slop.

HYP ... I believe Rdbass is borrowing what he posted ... perhaps he should have provided blue italics or something to make that more obvious.

The person that wrote that did not mean the for the "hip" to be uncoiling, but the "rear leg" to be uncoiing/untwisting.

OK, I must have misread it. I thought he was referring to an uncoiling rear hip.

Her coach had her do this drill, at a couple different angles until she was back at her normal stance.

I especially find value in this drill performed at a 45-degree angle. It is here where one can learn the benefits of an emphasis of coiling "around" ... and the benefits of "over", or the capture of barrel transition from the lateral scrunching action. It is a great way to learn that one does not "coil the rear hip" to simply "uncoil the rear hip". There is also the benefit of SnF. I've launched some of my biggest hits from the 45-degree SnF drill. I'll often have a hitter capture an important aspect of the swing from the 45-degree angle and then attempt to bring it back into their regular swing .... I'll have them go back and forth between their regular swing and a 45-degree SnF swing.

Again ... I perform these drills against game-speed pitching.

Not here.

Just to be clear I posted this example. If doing this drill, make sure hips are leading the hands/arms. You want the feel of stretch -hands/arms staying back as the hips fire first.

Looks like I'll just have to set this up myself in order to find out the distances. Maybe I can determine optimum point of contact and then try to compare that with actual game POC.

Thanks, anyway.

Just my thought sbp...not alot of people are setting up a tee to see how far they can hit it. That could be why you're not getting alot of answers.
