catspaw, I think halskinner may be able help you answer that question. You can PM him.

10 YO, 8 Months into the Journey

FR, She looks pretty good at 8 months out. The IR looks pretty good to me. I don't know if I would worry to much about the arm being too straight right now. As you can see she has a little leap without the drag in there. I'm not sure how others would say to fix that but I would say to have...

When you teach hitting, where do you start? ...

This is basically what I started my 5 year old DD out with. I have to keep it really simple. 1. Started with this: Turn the barrel (showing her the hand pivot point at her back shoulder. Turning the bat down and rearward opposite 2nd baseman.) 2. Added this: Use your rear leg as you pull...

3rd out appeal. How to scrore

HaHa. I just notice that. Good catch. I meant 1 out. I will change it.

3rd out appeal. How to scrore

Thanks eddieq. That is what I thought, but I could see an inexperienced coach and team not properly appealing R1. When is it too late to do a dead ball appeal on R1? I'm assuming when the ball is put in play during the next half inning.

3rd out appeal. How to scrore

Please let me know the ruling on this just so I know if it ever happens. This is not something that actually happened but something I dreamed up. Situation: 1 out R1 on 3rd R2 on 1st Scenario: Batter hits fly ball to right field. R1 leaves base before ball is caught and runs through and...

    Speed Calculation

You did 31 ft / .57 seconds. That is 54 ft/s = 36.8 mph. Edit: This would be an average not a top mph like a radar gun would get you.

    Absolute vs Nice to Have?

Frozen Rope and KenB In regards to the stride length: I'm with FrozenRope on this one. You absolutely can stride too far. You CAN NOT push off too hard though. There is a difference. I view the stride as how far you stretch your plant foot out once you have pushed off. If you stretch your...

DD Landing at a 45° angle but still need some help......

Good, now we got that figured out. :) Here is a photo from BoardMember about the grip. http://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-pitching/10321-i-r-classroom-2.html#post141569 Now that you have the grip and tape right you should start seeing the spin resembling in the gear in this post...

DD Landing at a 45° angle but still need some help......

PC, Maybe I don't understand your post. Most of the time I don't. Are you saying that the tape is oriented correctly here for a peel fastball? I'm assuming that is what she is trying to learn. If she is working on a turn over drop then she has it correct. If peel fastball then not. Maybe...

    12U Pitcher

The back leg looks much better, but you need to work on the plant foot when landing asap. She is landing at a 90 degree angle to the power line. A 45 degree angle is the safest for the knee and ankle. She looks like she is going to roll her ankle.

DD Landing at a 45° angle but still need some help......

Boomers, I would also like to know why the tape is sideways. Is this intentional? I think the release looks right but I'm wondering why you are not using the tape on the ball correctly to see the proper fastball spin.

DD Landing at a 45° angle but still need some help......

Do you think the drag leg is passive? I don't think it is. After plant the drag leg has to drive into the blocking front leg as you pull the ball down the backside. This counters the torque of the arm. I think the glove swim is a way of countering this force also. Have her drive her leg...

    New to the mound.

I was just trying to find the cause of her leaning over at release. It's hard to tell in the video but it almost looks like she almost uses IR but at the last minute her hand gets behind the ball and she uses her bicep to throw the ball as in HE. I've noticed that pitchers that use their...

    New to the mound.

Papa, Where does she miss most often? High or Low? My guess is high. Does she have problems keeping the ball down?

Time for another video...IR, the finish, and more questions from a confused dad

This is just a guess, because it is hard to see in the video. Is she using her fingers? Maybe she is just using IR without fingers and rotating her hand before the release, with her fingers on the side of the ball when she releases. Kind of like the the Sarah Pauly change up video. Maybe this...

    How to fix glove swimming??

Looks much better to me. Definitely looks like she is not using her arms as much to leap. To me her stride shortened up a little and her timing is better, because she is not flailing her arms and stretching her leg out to get off the mound. The whole top half is much calmer. Now build on...
