What's the Worst Thing An Opposing Team Did?

Not the worst thing that a coach can do by any means, but this weekend we saw a team that had several girls show bunt and then start moving their bats back and forth to distract the pitcher. If it was one girl, I would have thought she was just strange. But I have to believe this behavior is taught since we saw several players doing it. Does this fall in to the making a mockery of the game category?

Since I am the OP on this, I do not feel guilty about taking a slightly different direction. I have read all of these posts and literally shake my head in disgust at the terrible things the occur on softball fields, apparently, everywhere. It makes one look in askance at the entire softball community if not Human Race. However, I have just got to say that on this previous weekend tournament I did not witness any even mildly disgusting thing occur. I saw coaches from opposing teams joking with one another. Players being respectful of the opposing team. And umpires performing their duties with panache. It was a good weekend.

Ive seen this at some of the younger ages. I haven't seen it in a while at 14u and up. It usually was followed by a very inside pitch as leaning out over the plate and wiggling a bat makes it hard to move back and even more frustrating when its called a strike.

a) In softball when my DD#1 was 12YOA, the coaches on the other team would talk to my DD when she was pitching...telling her she was worthless and couldn't pitch. They did it quietly enough so that the coaches and umps couldn't hear much...

b) My DD#3 in college was playing a game where the winner would be in the Final Four. She was 21 or so. It was D3, so we were playing on the home court of the opposing team. There were about 2500 people in attendance. We were up by 5 or so with about 2 minutes to play. She was shooting free throws. This was at the end of the season, and she had both ankles taped due to sprains. About 1000 people (mostly students) began chanting, "Cankles, Cankles".

8U Rec ball, City Tournament. Opposing coach asking a lot of questions to PU at plate meeting. Came off to me as very hard core. Including if an infielder pushes player off base and tags her while ball is live, what would blue call? I assured him he didn't have to worry about that, my payers don't play like that. He ignored me and it hit me - he coaches his players like that.

Not only did they do it throughout the game to our baserunners, but he was a jerk later in the game as well. They are beating the daylights out of us (maybe 10 or 12 to 0). We have only 9 girls that day. Someone says our runner on first or second is crying. I call time and she won't tell me why. I call team mom out and give them some room. Girl is about to pee her pants. I explain to blue and opposing coach and ask if last batter up can run for her. Blue says no problem if other coach if okay with it. The coach starts hemming and hawing and talking about illegal substitutions and I got pissed and have mom escort the girl to the rest room. I told the guy I couldn't believe him, it's 8U, his team is kicking the snot out of us. and the girl is crying out of embarrassment. He finally okayed it and said something like her run shouldn't count if the sub runner scores. I almost pulled the tem and went home, but I knew the girls wanted to play.

Not nearly as bad as some of the stuff I red on this thread though.

Think I would have had to walk out on that one. You're a better person than I in that situation. :)

I was so close to dropping him, but I knew that would be bad. And so close to pulling team, and I knew that would be bad. So I hung in there for our girls :). We got whupped. They didn't know that we lost!

An 8u team dropped fbombs on some of our players at the end of a game after we beat them and wouldn't shake hands. Called the girls the "b" word.

I think my DD was 6 at the time and we had a 5 year old on the team.

That's easy. Safe and have the assistant coach (the new head coach) give me a substitute for the fielder since both the fielder and the head coach have been ejected.
