I usually see the umpires address the HC of the teams, and tell them to control their fans with a warning. Second infraction the umpires tell the coach to remove the fan or the coach will be ejected. There's no "rule" for this, but it isn't in violation of any rule for the umpire to do so, so it kind of skirts around the system. This is usually seen for tournament play.

As mentioned NFHS has rules allowing forfeiture.

What I find funny in this whole discussion is that a couple people have stated several times that the HU does NOT have the authority to eject parents, yet I have seen it happen several times. So does this mean that the HU has gone outside his "role" of umpire? I know that if I am ever on the receiving end of an umpire telling me to leave the game that I will never use the line "show me in the rules that grants you that power".

Seams that the video was made to justify actions of someone. The ones that will suffer most is the players if unruly fans are not removed. I know some great christian people that are the best people in the world until they sit in the stands at a sporting event.

That reminds me of a bumper sticker I read. "Lord, deliver me from your followers."

And another: "Jesus loves you. Everyone else thinks you're an a_hole!"

Technically, the umpire is the one who most often has the spectator removed. Yes, it is within his authority; he is responsible for the order of the game. The TD might escort you, but it's usually the umpire who "ejects" you.

I was just sitting behind the backstop filming the game when this incident took place. When Ms244 talking about umpires policing the stands in another thread, I was reminded that I had this video and decided to post it, even though the subject heading of this thread is a little misleading. Again, the umpire may have called for the ejection, but the tournament staff are the ones who executed it.

The whole thing was weird. It wasn't something anyone could've seen coming.

What are those prescribed infractions?

Since they are "prescribed" I would say they are probably guidelines as opposed to rules. Therefore, those guidelines are probably what the tournament directors, et al, would decide.

If you've ever seen a spectator ejected or asked to leave then you're probably aware of those guidelines.

I've read a few times on this and the "calling pitches" threads that the umpire is to approach the coach about controlling spectators. This has even been stated by those who say the rules don't support an umpire removing a spectator. I'd like to see a citation please.

I'm also curious about the notion that an umpire doesn't have the authority to remove a spectator, but has the authority to have the TD remove them. What's the practical difference and, again, citation please.
