Would you try out for a team without a coach in place?

Conversely, would you jump ship because the current coach took the team and jumped ship to another organization? Would you try out for the moved team?

Consider these as separate if you would like. I went to one these tryouts and was astonished at the numbers who were there anyway.

I would like opinions. Case one has an issue that a parent WILL be the coach, and case two has an issue with not many openings and questionable loyalty.

Healthy and stable programs draw good players on reputation as parents expect
the coaches to be experienced and approved by the organization.

Regarding your situation, there can be an entire box of reasons that a current
coach jumped ship. Go with your gut, talk to other parents who might be more familiar
with both organizations. Most importantly, send dd to a couple of practices before committing
to any team, especially in the older age groups where the window of opportunity is closing

Talk to the coach about why he is changing organizations. If he gives you the answer that the new organization will give the girls more opportunities in the long run, ask what those opportunities are and why you can't get them in the current organization. Don't let him give you a BS answer and let him slide.

On the other side, if there is no coach for the team in the current organization, who decides which players are on the roster? What good is it to go to a tryout where no one is in place to make a decision?
