The pitch in the clip is a slider BTW.

I see swinging down with posture support in the swing, Lewis. Compared to the kid who has a upright posture and a hand path that works down with no support.

Yes, been saying this for a while.. the greats isolate hand path in their demo, but of course they have no posture and 0 sequence when displaying this. That's why in demos barrel path results in a chop down type motion.. and everybody says "WTF". Add in posture and good sequence to equation and that = a major league swing. Some get so caught up in barrel path they only pay attention to the hands and the barrel .. this is a shortcut and an error in approach IMO.

Watch any video on Matt Atonelli describing TTB vs Down to and you will see what I am talking about. Matt displays down to with no sequence and no posture.. showing how the barrel doesn't follow that path in MLB swing.. In comparison he displays TTB with no posture and sequence and then makes the conclusion that this is the path the barrel follows in a MLB swing.

I dunno but Mike seems to slot the rear elbow putting the barrel on plane and side bend seems to follow. Forward bend stays intact until side bend finishes the swing. Posture seems to keep it on plane or support the plane.

What some seem to miss is the sequencing of the barrel planing (educate hands) (TTB). It can be done to early and too late. It should be synced with max separation for that particular swing being taken.

Rendon and Hank seem to follow the same trend.

Adjustment made for Rendon as he holds onto separation a bit longer, realizing he’s a bit early. Notice the extra ‘float’ in his swing.

side bend is important but can easily be taught by the cue of ‘rotate as if there was a metal pole driven through your head into the the ground, through contact‘.

If the head moves forward after foot down, during launch, the player will swing down to down. If the head rotates on axis, doesn’t move forward after foot down and during launch, the player will swing slightly up. Problems occur when the player is working up during the stride and rotates on axis and swings up at launch. Problems occur when the player works down during the stride, does not rotate on axis, head continues to move forward, and players continues to swing down. Ideally the stride would have the player work down, and at foot plant, the players head would rotate on axis, creating tilt and slightly upward path. Downhill to uphill! We confused yet?

Not here.
Good hitters drop the back shoulder.
Poor hitters drop the back shoulder.

What is the difference?

Good hitters' drop DRIVES their swing.
Poor hitters' drop then swing.

Good hitters' barrel speed is DURING THE DROP.
Poor hitters' barrel speed is AFTER THE DROP.

Good hitters drive DOWN to the ball....upon which their barrel turns up.
Poor hitters drop then drive UP THROUGH the ball.

Shoulders rotate.. . Posture changes based on pitch location and shoulders rotate around the spine.
