Some of our girls had colleges there looking at them and so, when that game degenerated, it did them little good.

That is EXACTLY the time when the college coaches would have been most interested in seeing your player's behaviors and actions. They expect that any player at that stage has physical skills and they've seen those on video. What they can only see "live and in person" is their mental game. How do they handle challenges that will arise anywhere? If they rose above the nonsense, kept their smiles on, kept encouraging each other and left the immaturity to the adults that would show the coaches exactly what they came to see.

Jerk of a coach. Umpire with no game management skills.
Curious...what rule set was the tourney played under?

Why would a plate umpire allow it to go this far?

Everyone loves to talk about personal responsibility--as long as it is someone's else's responsibility.

With due respect--we have a bunch of adults sitting around a game watching two adult coaches make a**es of themselves. Yet, the person everyone wants to blame is the $50 a game umpire. He isn't a policeman.

Why would parents ON BOTH TEAMS allow it to go this far? Were the parents locked up somewhere? A parent could somehow find his/her way over to the dugout and say, "Hey, enough. This isn't worth it." Then, simply pull the kids from the field and move on.

Not sure who started what but the home plate umpire is responsible totally for the conduct of the game. It sounds like he let it progress too far. That could easily have ended tragically.

An umpire can be thought of as a policeman; his duties are to enforce the rules of the game. Failing to do so can easily turn a game into a riot. He either needs more training, more courage, both; or another job.
