Just felt the need to make a little brag post about my DD's varsity season this year. She's a sophomore this season. As a seventh grader she looked to be the next ace pitcher at her school. With a pretty good freshman pitcher in front of her we all expected to have 2-3 really good seasons with the two of them. Unfortunately, my DD suffered a shoulder injury which required surgery just prior to the 8th grade season.

She's suffered from a lack of confidence since then for numerous reasons. But she spent the entire offseason last fall working her butt off on her hitting. She had a solid season batting this year, spending most of the year as the DP due to arm troubles.

The team was up an down through the season, blowing big leads and losing games they shouldn't have, mixed in with upsetting larger schools. They finished 2nd in the Area tournament during which she hit her first home run! They qualified for the Regional tournament. Their first draw was a team that beat them in Regionals last year. She had 3 hits in their victory over that team this year. Next game was against the team that eliminated us last year. Beat them. She had an RBI double in that one. Final game of regionals was against the rival who won our area. She had an RBI single in that win too. They won the Regional tournament and qualified for state for the first time in school history!

At the state tournament they drew the 4 time in a row defending 2A state champs in the first round. Whipped that tail, she had an RBI double and was HBP twice! Next game, last year's state runners-up. She had single, HBP and 2 RBI in that win. Next game we met the immovable object. An 8th grader from Hale County shut us down with a no hitter. She's a beast. So with one loss we had to play the 4 time champs again! Surely luck wouldn't be on our side again? Yep! She hit her 2nd home run ever! (And a HBP) Another win put them playing in the 2A State Championship game! Against the 8th grader from Hale County :(. Did I mention how good that kid pitches? Wow. So our girls finished as AHSAA 2A state runners-up this year. Before they were presented the trophy, the AHSAA announced the 2A All-Tournament team. DD was one of 3 from our school! She played the entire tournament as DP so all that hard work and hundreds of swings this fall paid off with a great performance on the biggest stage she's played on so far.

Thanks for reading, just couldn't help but be proud of her hard work and her team for making some history at our little school.
