I think one of the reasons I get along so well with the umpires in my area is that I understand that as a coach I make mistakes. I don't see the umpire coming over and telling how stupid any given move I make is. In the case of the OP, I'd thank the Umpire and carry on. He did something he didn't have to do and I'd be darn if I would then jump him for admitting it and coming to me face to face. Sounds to me like a pretty good Umpire there.

Maybe not a great umpire, not enough information to be sure. But, I'd say he at least sounds like a pretty good man. Not a lot of us find it so easy to admit when we're wrong.
