Hi -
DD has pain in groin area on drive leg when dragging leg. Started recently. She has a high pain tolerance but started crying with pain. (I thing part of this was frustration not being able to pitch). Cannot replicate pain any other way, other than dragging leg during pitching. No pain during warmup, only after a few reps of max the pain starts. Stops when pitching stops - our rule is we stop when we have pain.

We are assuming Hip Flexor but I’m far from being trained in this field. Looks like this is treatable with rest and HF stretching. Hoping nothing more than that, i.e. hernia?

There are so many websites offering advice on this, but dont know what is really accurate. Too many internet doctors.

Just looking to see if anyone else has this issue with DD and what you did to get her fixed up.

Appreciate any advice.

How old is she? Mine had this last year (she's 11 now but she's almost 5'6" and this past year has been a huge growth year). When it didn't get better we took her to an ortho who then sent her to PT. She only had to go to PT twice, it was amazing. They taught her some stretches and how to build the complimentary muscles in that area for support. The ortho said if she wasn't having pain, it was fine, just to make her stop if it started hurting. Sometimes she could pitching an inning, sometimes not even that. It would sometimes start to hurt when she was running bases. They said it was growth related, something about the growth plate in the hip. I don't remember all the details. Essentially, rest, stretches, and exercises. Yoga is great (look up Yoga with Adriene on YouTube, it's my favorite). There are also plenty of hip flexor stretches online.

I learned the hard way this year that pain in the hip and glutes was all related to a bulged disc in the back. Happened after a couple months working up to be able to throw full speed for my DD batting practice. Weird part is that I could snowboard but I about cried getting out of the car with the glute pain.

Internet, Ortho, and PT all misdiagnosed it as hamstring problems mostly because I never had any back pain. Found the right Sports specialist and I am slowly recovering.

Probably not a likely to happen to kids but I thought that I would still warn against assuming the pain location is the problem.

Good luck and good health!!!

Seek a professional Doctor's evaluation! I have lived in pain since 2013 with my hips. I am now going through the process of planning a hip replacement with my Ortho. It will be done when school gets out. I feel for your dd.

Thanks - she's 15. We are following some stretching techniques they have online. what's crazy is that this doesn't happen until she drags her foot. No other movement can replicate this.
