Trust the brush. My guess is that she does fine in drill like you mentioned, but when it comes time to hit her mark in full motion, she likely aims and misses her brush trigger and some whip. If all else is well, I'd suggest LOTS of underhand catch with a focus on keeping the lower arm loose and feeling the brush/trigger. Slowly increase lower half intensity until she looses it then back off slightly until she can work up to full motion and trust her whip. Keep an eye on her posture as she amps up intensity. Video review is really your best bet.
