One element of one-legged that doesn't get talked about as much any more is the idea of the pivot point. There is going to be rotation in the swing. You can pivot around a point in your rear hip. You can post to your front leg and rotate around a point in your front hip. I think we all agree that's not ideal. You can also pivot around 'both', ie the pelvis as a unit (front and rear hips) rotating together. That's long and slow. The pivot point is a useful thing to play around with in a swing and can be found in most ground-leveraged power movements -- throwing a punch, overhand pitching off a mound, windmill pitching, an aggressive tennis forehand, etc.
Can you tell me where the pivot point is for each of these ground-leveraged power movements?
Also, do you believe that most MLB players (I know this is a softball forum) pivot around/over their rear hip socket?

Please, if your really interested in this start a post and we all can learn and share. I appreciate the interest but the focus of this is the learning and sharing of Haley’s lesson with Richard with those that have an interest In the HLP.

The hand pivot point is often misunderstood when learning, I know I didn’t fully get it. I took video from her lesson and added her drills to it. Hope this helps someone. I know I could have used the help like this 6 years ago.

I used to think the hand pivot and sending the barrel backwards was crazy talk.

Now I understand it much better.

I think it looks pretty good. Maybe a bit of a forearm pivot point vs a hpp. IMO a hpp is easier with hands right in front of the rear shoulder and a right angle bend in the front arm vs her hands behind the shoulder and her more open bend in the front arm.

To me the one legged swing is number 1 drill to teach the HLP . The next drill is the 45 & 90 degree swings. In the HLP swing the term two moving gears is referring to the hip as one and the hands being the second. In this video you can see the two gears working with each other.

So I stated using the drills we’ve learn with Haley’s lesson with Richard to my other students. Here is Ryan learning the patterns. The video takes you in her lesson about 4 minutes. The swings at the end are noticeably different.

I think a lot of people get stuck without a map of how to find your way. Please lots of work to be done.

The leg snap has to lead the hip turn. The picture with the lower barrel is the better one
