Same thing happened to me last year. The nail did not fall off, which I was relieved about, but it took about 9-10 months for it to completely grow out. I did cover it with polish over the summer months but just left it to grow out once sandal season was over. I was so happy when it finally grew out enough to clip off the last of the black. I almost took one to the toe a couple of weeks ago, and it was enough to send me shopping for steel toes. I really do not want a black toe for 9 months ever again. Good luck!
