Lack of Brush Interference.

I've seen this one myself. Stud at 10u, Stud at 12u, 2nd year 14s and is giving up pitching. Velocity hit 60, but can't find the strike zone. Converted from HE and never got rid of the monkey butt. I couldn't believe it when I saw her the other day. Had to slow it down to mid forties to get it over the plate.
+1 on this. If you get good BI, posture and IR almost definitely have to be there, this one things seems to tie it all together. IMO

We’ve been having this very discussion with DD. Glad it was mentioned.

My dd did this for years. Finally figured it out this winter. Velocity went up about 5-6mph. We now say slow to fast. Don’t rush and blast past brush.

I don’t blame DD. She was doing what she was told....”go fast”. Well, to do that she would muscle her arm around as fast as she could which locked it out, gave less than ideal IR, and as a result killed the whip. She’s been working on the whip the last few months. Noticeably increased velocity. And just a week ago her PC brought up the arm tempo. Immediate difference. So every time we practice it’s a focus.

She also pitches out of the glove so the tempo change makes it easier for her to stay in the glove a touch longer. Also aiding in her sequencing.

We are so living through this right now. DD has just started working on her rise, and we usually begin by throwing close to one another, slowly, just trying to get the spin right.

She does well getting backspin slow and close, but once she backs up and starts throwing harder, she can’t tell if it’s spinning correctly and my old eyes are just concerned with not getting hit in the face.

Every once in a while, a pitch will level off and not have any downward break, and I’ll yell, “I think that was right!!”

Put electrical tape around the ball to see the spin. Or purchase a softball with a chip inside.

Really have her reach to 3 o’clock until the drive foot detaches. The. She will have better tempo and timing.
Tempo helps timing as well as brush.

Clear cut #1 requirement for high level pitching is posture. (connected upper and lower torso/no ninja). Posture starts in the drive mechanics so work diligently to drive correctly.

Close #2 requirements are Internal Rotation, Arm Whip, & Brush Trigger.

Get these four building blocks correct and you are well on your way to becoming a high level pitcher.

I've increasingly heard "slow to fast," but don't really get what is meant by that. Halppppp!
