I'm considering a new bat for my DD. She's been asking for one.

Some background:
My daughter is 9 (soon to be 10), and played her first year of club ball this past spring/summer. She's 4'10" 92 lbs, and is swinging a 30"/18 oz DeMarini Vendetta. Since I got her the bat, she's grown an inch to an inch and a half and gained 4-5 lbs. She's also gained a lot of strength and has a better swing.

Starting out the season last year, she hit a lot of balls, especially against faster pitchers, to RF. Now, she hits a lot of balls to LF with more power. I'm sure some of it is just her maturing and getting more comfortable at the plate (good coaching from the club, etc).

Her friend has a 30/20 Mako She's swung it a couple times and liked it and now wants one. My questions are:

1) Is 30/20 the right size for her? Or should I go 31/21? Some charts say 30, others say 31 for her height.

2) Is the weight jump too much?

3) Mako, Xeno 2015 or DeMarini?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

You are all over the board. :)

30/20 or 31/21 sounds about right. I would stay away from the -11.

The CF8 will swing light, the Xeno will probably be right on weight.

Because you are not sure I would try a 31/21 CF8.

I am a little confused. :) She does like the Mako 2015. I am more confused about 31/21 or 30/20 than anything else. You answered the question about the -10 -11 which was my other point of confusion.

3 oz jump is not too much?

My daughter is the same height and weighs more and she swings a 30/19 Demarini Sprite. Great bats and allows her to generate good swing speed.

aec4444 - Be aware that sticker weight is not always accurate. Easton bats tend to run an ounce or more over sticker, so the 30/20 Mako was probably more like a 30/21. More than anything, having her comfortable with the bat is critical. At 4'-10", a 30" is probably the right size, but she will outgrow it soon.

For comparison, my DD (almost 11yo, 5'-0", 100 lbs) has been swinging a 31" for a year. She moved from a Vendetta 30/18 to a CF6 Sprite 31/20, and is now swinging a Miken Freak Black 31/21.

My daughter has the Mako 31/21. It's actual weight on my postal scale is 22.4. My daughter is roughly 5', and 105lbs. She loves her Mako.

I am sure this will be no surprise to anyone, but I called Easton and they claim this isn't true. The weight of the grip may cause difference and theyd swap the bat out if it were true.

Easton can say whatever they want about it, but real-world data tells a different story. The good people of DFP have been weighing their bats for a while, and the results can be found here...http://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-equipment-product-reviews/20034-bat-weight-database.html

Looking at this info, we can definitely see some trends with certain manufacturers.

I believe you guys. :) I was just reporting, to the shock of no one, that Easton denied this. They claimed it was all the grip that was the cause if there was any
